I've had TX-1000-style DDR pads for almost 5 months now, and I think it's due time I give a solid review.
Early May: Pads arrived, both worked perfectly. Early June: first pad-miss. Mid-june: First one's left and down arrow stopped working. Early July: Second one's down arrow cracked, replaced it with first one's up arrow. Late July: Cleared my first 10-foot rated song. Mid-august: Second one's right arrow cracked, replaced it with first one's right arrow. Late August: 8 pad-misses with second pad due to bad welding, problem fixed. Early September: First AAA on second pad, as well as 3 heavy black flags. Mid-september: First *** on second pad, 2 **'s, 11 Green Flags (Hard/Expert). September 26th: Repaired first pad completely, including a new hardwood base; will be replacing the two cracked panels by November. September 30th: tore a triangular wooden piece that holds the down arrow onto the pad off, easily repaired, but quite the nuisance until then.
Total cost of these pads: $145.98 Max value IMO: $120.00 ea. Durability: Boo Modability: Great Looks: Good Sensitivity: Great (unless damaged) Feel: Good Doubles: Boo
My grading key: Kyle Ward < Naoki < Everything else in existence that isn't worth mentioning. <<<<<<< TAKA
Will get pics tomorrow.
[Fixed grading scale. -FR]

Nice edit thar, FR. xD Kyle Ward actually does some pretty insane PIU FreeStyle. He pretty much dominates the local machine's highscore board. But many of his stepcharts fail. >=(
@ Falling Stars: If you can get them for under $120 apiece, go for it. eBay works, but the shipping takes forever and quality isn't guaranteed.

Frozen Ray Lord Thatlatu of the Tofu But many of his stepcharts fail. Just QFEing here. Heh, I'm glad I'm not the only one to be displeased by that. I think he should take on a smaller load. He does way too many, and hardly any are good quality.

Hmmm. These pads don't seem too good. I'll stick with getting a CF.

if CF would shove a ******** bar on the back of their pads I would be all over it, but I'd have to put one up myself.

Bar? That's what the arcade's for. talk2hand
I play at home to practice, so unless I need practice using the bar (AKA developing the muscles necessary to support myself in a barrape position for 80-120 seconds), I just go without and call it good.

Saving money is what home versions are for. talk2hand 300 bucks to get a cobalt flux and load up my stepmania with all the officals and originals and I never have to use the arcade machine again and I'd have a bar to rape harder than tenticals.

Saving money is what Wunderland is for. 20 cents for DDR, man. It's pretty hard to beat that. Besides, there's no social value in sitting in your basement playing alone, no matter what you're raping.

The TX1000s do NOT take heavy play for very long (6months)...they need constant soldering and rewiring and you have to put up with cracked arrows or replace at $7.50 a pop, which adds up if you have two pads. After a year, I gave mine to a friend for an overhaul and got 2 CF. Been 6 months of heavy play (heavy ppl, heavy songs, 10 ppl taking turns) and not a single problem yet...except they are so smooth...people get lost on them, lol.
