I'm making this thread as a place to discuss the controversial topic of abortion. Since this will most likely be dealt with more formally in coming years, I think a discussion thread will be interesting.

Well, if this is to be a discussion, what are your views?
And I suppose I'll start with my own.
I am pro-abortion. Why? Because I don't really see it as taking a life or anything like that and a woman can do what she wants with her body. Now, I'm not saying that girls shouldn't do without any form of protection but having the option in desparate situations should be legal.
One situation would be rape. I mean, it is really the girl's fault if she were to get pregnant? (I know guys can be raped too but they can't get pregnant.) If the girl cannot support the child later on and wouldn't want to give it up for adoption or just wouldn't wouldn't want to go through the stages of pregnancy, abortion would be the option.
Another case would be an accidentaly pregnancy (not the same as rape) where a couple would have sex willing, even protected, but the pregnancy occured. Abortion could help if the pregnancy isn't wanted. I know this one myself since my cousin had one when she wasn't ready. And, I'll admit, I had a few scares myself (though I never was pregnant...damn the stress).
These are my reasons and I guess I'll add later as the discussion grows.

I personally think it is wrong al toghether, the life of a human is valued more than money or anything else, it's life, you cant just choose to take life away, it's wrong, i mean, to think, waht if soemoen decided to take our lives away with just a single swipe, it wouldn't be fair to us now would it, we'd have so much to live for, so now i ask, why would it be right to take the life of a much younger person than ourselves.
Yes, rape does occur, an d it's not right either, but dont kill the child if you dont want it, give it a home, something, but not death, no one deserves to die, not even if they dont know what it means, it's sad...To wake up and die.
But these are my thoughts on abortion.

regardless of the conseption it it compleatly up to the mother to take this child into her life or not, it is a terible thing to enda life yes, but it is even more so to orphan a child in todays orphanages, where the child would be abused possibly molested, or neglected alltogether

Treaos bring up a good point that I forgot to mention. Having the child only to stick it up for adoption really isn't always the best idea. I mean, yes, adoption is a great thing for those who can't have children but I think that setting up an adoption would be far better if the pregnant woman and the couple or person who wants to adoption meet first before the child is born. This saves the pregnant woman from either running to get the abortion or having to place the child in an orphange somewhere.
But abortion is still a nice option for those who don't wish to go through with a pregnancy. There are already way too many children in this world without care because of unwanted pregnancies. If abortion was taken away, that number would only increase...and I for one don't want to see that happen to all those children.

I had done posted kinda late Sunny, so i was going to post my views a little later.
I wouldnt call that spam Rue, but if you can elaborate later, when you're less lazy, that'd be best. blaugh
I'm for abortion personally, to a certain stage of course. As Sunny mentioned, for certain unfortunate matters such as rape, the woman should have the choice of abortion. Or if delevering the child will threaten the woman's life. (I'm not sure how many of these cases are still relevent however, considering the advancements of modern medicine.)
But if abortion was made legal, parental consent should be mandatory. This shouldn't be a fallback plan for girls who feel they can have unprotected sex and not worry about repercussions. Some people feel that the "morning after pill" or emergency contraceptive is a form of abortion, where in reality, it is actually a stronger dose of the birth control pill. And this is becoming more and more socially accepted, with commercials advertising "The Patch" which introduces the same hormones into the bloodstream as the Pill does, just through the skin.
So the bottom line for me is, abortion should be an emergency plan B. First choice should be to put the child up for adoption if you cannot provide a safe healthy life for it.

I'm a sort of "it really depends" kind of thing...I mean, my Religion is strictly Pro-life, but on the other hand, I'm my own person and I do think there will be times when sometimes people need to have an abortion.
Like, my cousin when she was 14 had to have an abortion. There was no way she was ready. She lived a sheltered life who only had sex to show her freedom from her parents. Idiotic of her, yes, but I still think it was the right thing to do and have an abortion.
But if you're married and want to have an abortion, I think that this is really pointless. I've had hundreds of cousins who are married and don't want kids. But they don't just sit them in Adoption facilities, they take care of them until they personally can find a family who they know can take care of these children.
And another thing about my religion is that we have set up a welfare program and couseling for this kind of thing. If the girl is a minor, then her parents will take her to see the Bishop (the leader of your personal meeting group called a ward.) and the Bishop will talk to them about their choices. He always leaves them the choice of abortion, but always tries to persuade them to adoption, depending on their age, he'll also suggest to marry the father of the child and keep it for themselves.
Yep, so really to summarize my ramblings, this is my point of view: Very pro-life, sort of pro-choice, religion has a welfare program set up for these kind of situations.

I'm going to make mine short and simple at first to get my point across, if anyone wants to ask me for more details I will try
I believe that abortion is an acceptable practice that should in some cases actualy be practiced more often (such as the cases of rape or the pregnancy of a minor). The human population has exceded it's limit many times over and if we are to reduse the worlds population without commiting genoside the best way to start is by stoping unwanted pregnancies.
I also think its acceptable from the fact that one isn't legaly alive until after birth.
If the Child in question would be born into a comunity that couldn't support it apropreatly for what ever reason the best thing in my opinion would be to in a sence save the child from an existence of missury

i think it depends on the condition, if a young girl is raped then yes, definetly, an abortion should be allowed(i know i'd want one). if a women gets pregnant and just decides she doesn't want it then probably not. now, if a woman gets pregnant and can't afford to take care of the child, then an abortion, i think, is the best thing.
an abortion, although, should happen only during the first two to three months or so, while the 'baby' is not yet developed.
Now don't tell me i'm too young to understand and make an educated opinion on it because 'i'm just a little kid'. evil
