I made this topic because it seemed as though it'd be quite popular based on the way the topic was swaying in another thread.
So let's talk about how we introduce(d) our kids to the world of anime fandom. Be it movies, series, video games, cons, or cosplay.
I started introducing my kids to anime quite a while back. We started off with My Neighbor Totoro and have branched from there. I have been a loooong time anime fan, myself, so I thought it was only natural to let the kinds in on it as well!
They enjoy most Miyazaki films and other children oriented animes (Sailor Moon, Pokemon, etc). As they get older, I will be showing them more animes as well.
They also enjoy watching (and trying to play) video games.
I haven't tried cosplay with them yet or cons, but that is something I would also like to do in the future. I have only been to a couple of real anime cons, myself (Katsucon '04 and Nekocon '03).
Anywho, post your experiences and thoughts about your children and anime fandom ^_^.

Me and Rodney are determined to introduce Tyler to anime at a young age. Right now, he's only 2 months, 2 weeks old, so he's not too interested yet. ^_^ But, once he starts watching TV, we're going to get little kid animes for him, instead of American cartoons. He'll be allowed to watch American cartoons, but as with anime, only ones that I approve of. I don't like most American cartoons, because they really don't make kids think. There isn't an ongoing story and most of it is just senseless violence. I'm not saying I'm going to censor everything Tyler watches, but I just plain dislike American cartoons.
As for cosplaying, I've gone to Neko-con every year since two years ago. I've been the Final Fantasy White Mage, Navi ( Legend of Zelda. My friend, Jasmine went as Link.), and someone else I can't remember. Next year, I'll be taking Tyler to Neko-con, and probably dressing him up as that little emperor guy from Yu Yu Hakusho. Does anybody know what his name is? I only watch every now and then.

That'a what I thought it was, but I didn't want to put it down and then look stupid if it was wrong. sweatdrop Tyler would be sooo cute in that outfit. heart

My oldest (5) watches Kimba, if anyone's seen that. sweatdrop She also really love Castle in the Sky and Spirited Away. My husband and I will probably ween her on to those kinds for now. My youngest will probably follow the same route. And of course, we scan them all first. Some Anime's are definately not for kids! (and I'm not talking just the porno ones..we don't watch those)
As for cosplay, we've never done that, in fact, we've never been to a con even! gonk However, Sugiocon (I hope I spelled that right) is coming up here in Ohio in Nov. and I'm going to go with my sister. I don't think my husband will go since he's not as big a fan as I am of anime. I was going to try cosplaying Kabuki, but I think I'm might aim more for Ohayocon (again..spelling) since I really need to get in shape a bit more.
I think my daughter would love cosplaying! What kid wouldn't like getting dressed up with mom and/or dad and going out!?!? xd

I wish I would've known you all you guys back then! I was all alone at Nekocon sad . Sadly, though, I won't be attending this year. The military will be moving us in some weeks from now, so I won't be anywhere near this area once we move. I *will*, however, be closer to Akon in Dallas if anyone in the GPG attends it!

Uni, I don't evenj know that much about Yu Yu Hakusho... that was amazing eek

Neko girl Manda >.> When is that one? *is about 3 hours from Dallas herself* I don't know any exact dates, but I'm sure you could Google it up and find out. It's a HUGE con though and many of my friends from other message boards attend it... even my fave comic artist! HOORAY! Anywho, it'd be cool if we could all go and meet up! ^_^

My son is 2 and really is not much into TV, he only watches one show (completely), the Teletubies. The rest of the time he glimpses at the screen nothing more, so I thought getting him into anime was gonna be hard. Till I started watching downloaded episodes on my computer, first it was Live action Sailormoon, and he would watch it with me xd
Now we're watching 'Full Moon wo Sagashite', he loves Meroko as a flying bunny and he keeps asking me if we can watch it ^^

Heh ya'll are going to think I'm crazy but anyways...
I wish I knew what time Hamtaro comes on, Logan used to love that (and my husband won't admit it, but he was strangely hypnotized as well). I don't really have the cash to shell out for anime, it being so dang expensive! But I do have anime on demand on my cable channel and Logan loves the theme song to chobits!! He also likes Angelic Layer for now.
