In my English class we started reading a novel called "Brave New World" and it's about a world in the future where everybody is happy because they are controlled by an authority called "the State"....one of our topics of discussion was "Is it ever going to be possible for us to create a Utopia?"....even after discussing it for a whole period, we weren't able to get a definite answer....but most of us agreed that it would never be possible because it's impossible to satisfy everybody in the world.Everybody has their own idea of what happiness is and their own ideas of paradise. If there was one Utopia for everyone, it would be chaos because of our conflicting ideals. Instead, we would end up being seperated into our own Utopias, but one of the beliefs of a Utopia is that everybody lives together in peace with each other. So seperate Utopias would contradict that belief...and the discussion continued on with a lot more reasons why it isn't possible.....I thought this related to Wolf's Rain a bit since they were looking for paradise throughout the series and finally found a way to it...so I'd just like to see what opinions you guys had about it (the question I'm referring to is "Is it ever going to be possible for us to create a Utopia?" if you're a bit lost)...

Wow... I'd hafta agree with your class, though. In reality, it would be genuinely impossible for a 'paradise' or 'eutopia' to exist, because of everyone's different ideas on what happiness is.
If we lived in a world such as what is portrayed in 'The Giver' or your class's novel 'Brave New World', where no one has their own personal views or really a free will, then it would be possible, because no one would have an conflicting ideas and whatnot.
But, in reality, no. A 'paradise' for us would be impossible for a human to create, without going into religious ideas.
....Wow. That was too deep for me. I'm gonna go drown myself in sugar now. -_-

3nodding *nods in agreement* I agreed with my class too....in the novel, the State "programs" the people in their world to have no thoughts by making their thoughts the people's thoughts....(for example, they have something similar to ranks in the book: Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Epsilon...the State programs the Alphas and Betas to be intellegent, so they do the better jobs in the society and they are also programmed to look down upon the Gammas, Deltas, and Episilons....the last three ranks pretty much do the labor work in the society)....so they are pretty much living in a state of false happiness and do not realize the truth of what is happening to them....they are so brainwashed by their "perfect" lives that they aren't able to question what the State is doing...I would never want to live in a "utopia" like that....the whole thing would be a lie...
I heard that "The Giver" was similar to this novel, but I've never read it...

I agree with both of you. I can't remember the title of the story, but we read it in my english class and it was really interesting and started a debate in class. It had the same thing where everyone was controlled by a form of a 'Government'. What concerned me was that anyone who was physical wise exceeding others had to wear bags full of lead weights including dancers. Those intelligence wise had to wear a hearing aid like thing that would send out a shrieking sound every ten or twenty seconds to scatter your thoughts. I said that kind of life would be terrible and I would rather be dead then live that kind of life.

"Utopia" translates into "no place" becauese there is no place that is perfect. Even if there was a "perfect" in most ways there is always either something wrong or there are people who aren't happy. Perfection is boring why would anybody want that anyway?

My Paradise consists of the Children of Fenrir roaming the earth without any boundaries, a perfect utopia, of Fenrir's Children. So perfect, no greed, only the survival of the pack.

Hehee....deep conversation here. What I would like to know is. How can there be a Paradise...if everyone has a different idea about it? That means one would be unhappy. That one unhappy therefore cause paradise to be inconclusive. The paradise I could think of capable of making everyone happy...is heaven.

I never thought about it like that before. I guess i would rather live in an imperfect world with all the people i love versus living in a perfect world alone.
