Yay, first new topic! That aside, has anyone else here played this great game for the SNES? It was my favorite of the SNES DBZ games. I especially liked how you could charge energy attacks, a feature which I've only seen there and in BT2.

i have played a lot of it over the years, it was pretty good. I didn't think about the charged energy moves in till now, and your right only T2 and HD had it.

The only thing I didn't like was the finishers, they were overly complex to do for most, although looked great if you were lucky enough to see them. And HD was one of the first to have alternate storylines.

Yeah, the finishers were hard, I think I only managed to do Piccolo's once and never could again. I wouldn't know about alternate story lines since I can't read Japaese, I just waited for the fight to start when playing single player.

I played the english patch version as well before i bought the real one on E-Bay. I enjoyed playing it on my system more than on the emulator thats for sure. About the finishing moves,the fact they are complicated to pull off is what makes them so great. I mean think about it, the attack is so much more cooler when it takes you awhile to perfect it and pull it off then if you just press two or three buttons at once and it's automatically done for you. Thats another reason i loved HD was that it was a fighting game to the core,including it's share of difficult to execute moves which most classic 2D fighting games shared,think of how cool it was when you did fatalities in Mortal kombat back in the day....then again...thats a bad anology cus frankly Mortal Kombat was chock full of moves that were difficult to pull off,even the not so special ones. lol And i also liked all the angled attacks in HD, I think all of the characters had atleast one but I'm not positive, It's where they have a type of blast they fire angled upward so you can hit someone trying to do an arial attack on you.

Yeah, they all have diagonal moves, though some fired in multiple directions I think.

I was able to perform gokus special without a hitch at one point,it rocks. He transforms into SS3 and does some kind of move but i remember it ending with him doing the spirit bomb like he did to defeat kid buu. It was a pretty long while back that I saw it. lol Have to say my fav character to play with is Goku actually,he has a good variety of moves and his instant transmission is a big help if you use it at the right times and dont confuse going forwards instead of backwards.

Another thing, I really wish they wouldve added Trunks though. That wouldve atleast made the perfect set since in all the games they atleast narrow the heros down to trunks,vegeta,piccolo,gohan and goku. Although I did find a .gif file of Trunks that looked like the sprites from that game. I'm sure it was just created by a fan but it looked exactly like Trunks would have had they added him into the game and it subsequently sent me looking for some kind of secret method or code to get him in the game for the longest even though i knew it was impossible. Here it is right here for y'all to check out.

its a clever modification of goku, to look like trunks. I have to admit its pretty good. To justify the characters in this game they really, at that time, were focusing on the buu saga because it was just airing there, trunks would be nice but unnecessary due to the fact in some small way he kinda is (gotenks).

its kinda like a tree. If you add a character you need to incorperate him/her into the story mode in some small way, and then you also need all the characters that one needs to fight so trunks fights meca freiza so then they would have to add him, and if you wanted trunks in for cell you'd need another trunks. With a snes cartridge unable to hold it and trunks battles not as important than the others he is left without a place.

think about the trane of thought these guys were on, its only just recently we've even seen trunks use the sword to fight and without the coat(sporting the cool tank top).

anyway though cool ani...steal lol

Yeah I knew it was modified from Goku cus of his stance. And even though they designed the game with the character forms from Buu in mind,they went through the story from Goku going super saiyan and fighting freeza through the fight with kid buu,so he would fit in the story. And Trunks without his jacket was used in Super Butoden 2 which came out before HD,and HD came out during the last year or so of the SNES' life in japan so the series was plenty over by the time HD came out,since Butoden 3 came out before HD as well and it focused on the Buu saga itself. But although i do agree it's possible that cartridge space limited more characters but not entirely, the biggest fighting roster I know of on an SNES fighting game is Mortal Kombat....3 i think. Even though many of the ninja type characters were exactly the same sides color. lol And dont get the wrong idea, even though this is the second time I've aluded to MK I dont really like the series so much,so difficult to pull off even the most basic of combos. n.n;

I forgot bu2 had trunks -jaket.
MK characters have less frames than HD so its almost excusible to not inclued other characters in HD. I would have liked to see some but it wasn't to be. They have since made up for that with T2

Yes, the SNES storage capacity was unfortunate, but hey, at least it had the best graphics and gameplay of any of the SNES DBZ fighters.
