I had to do this art project for uh, what else, my art class.

The assignment was to pick your favorite song, based on the lyrics, and draw what you feel when you hear the song.
Naturall I picked Panic's "Build God, Then We'll Talk".

It just got me to thinking, "Woah, this song is about a hooker."
And in some ways it is.

I also read somewhere Nails For Breakfast, Tacks For Snacks and Camisado were written about a drunken father?

Anyways, what songs mean what? What's you're general reasoning for thinking so?
If not, just gush over how much you love Panic.

I don't know if this sounds kind of crazy...
But I believe "Build God, Then We'll Talk" is some how related to the female reproductive system.

"Substandard motels"
The eggs.

"Any practiced Catholic would cross themselves upon entering"
It's kind of like saying that Catholics pray everything goes good during sex. [entering the v****a]

"And the habit of decomposing right before your very lalalala eyes"
Eggs decompose if sperm do not enter.

"Inside, what a wonderful caricature of ...intimacy"
Self explanatory.

Of course, we all know the general story within the song. You know, the lawyer and virgin. But sometimes I wonder if Ryan was putting a secret twist into the lyrics. Just a thought. whee

Oh, and you're right about the drunken father. Nails For Breakfast, Tacks For Snacks and Camisado were actually written about Ryan's drunken father. I believe those two songs are very personal to him.

♥ Take the pressure from the swelling...

This is just what I've gathered up over all the interviews and posts and all that jazz.
So don't quote the entire thing on me.

The Only Difference Between Martrydom and Suicide is Press Coverage
An intro about the band. Saying that they're not like every other band out there. And that they deserve they're time in the limelight as well.

London Beckoned Songs About Money Written By Machines
Them wanting to be made "scene" and "hip" like all those other bands out there; realizing out boring it can be. And that they don't care if you don't like them or their lyrics, they're going to make the music anyways.

Nails for Breakfast, Tacks for Snacks && Camisado
About Ryan's father's alcholism.

Time to Dance
Written about the book Invisible Monsters, by Chuck Paluhniuk {sp}.

Lying is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking her Clothes Off
I'm not entirely sure on this one. But I suppose it's about a relationship went wrong. Supposedly his girlfriend teased him and cheated on him, and he's trying to get back at her.

But It's Better if You Do && I Write Sins Not Tragedies
But It's Better if You Do: A guy at a strip club, obviously. But he sees a girl he's interested in. Things happen that he's not to proud of. One thing leads to another and that's when you get...
I Write Sins Not Tragedies: The guy ends up marrying Whatserface. He regrets it, though. The chorus explains that all the bullshit about "What a beautiful wedding" would sound a lot better if it wasn't faked.

I Constantly Thank God for Esteban
This one isn't very confirmed either. I know it's a club-like setting. But it's obviously written about a book.

There's a Good Reason These Tables are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Thought of it Yet
About a girl trying to impress a guy. But the guy isn't interested. He tells her off; she ends up depressed. Also, the "I've never been so surreptitious..." verse is pretty much the guy pulling a prank and secretly spiking the punch she's about to drink.
{Also written about a book}

Build God, Then We'll Talk
I'm not sure about that female reproductive theory, because Ryan wouldn't write things like that. {No offense ;D} But it's about people going to these "substandard motels" and cheating/committing adultery. The lawyer and the virgin, the virgin obviously being a hooker. Now, I'm not sure about the "purse of a different kind". Supposedly some sort of sexual item. There's an illusion to The Sound of Music, hence the "raindrops on roses..."

Note: This isn't all confirmed. So don't go telling everyone it's all true. -shifty shifty-

add on to: Lying is the Most Fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off
Umm... I think this one is about this girl broke up with somebody, and now she misses him. And now he's all taunting her and like "You had me" "You know it alwas'll just be me". Yeah. I think.

my interpretation of: There's a Good Reason These Tables are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Thought of it Yet um... about this girl who wants to be cool, but isn't and is all depressed because that one guy is ruining this big banquet thing that she planned? umm... this one is kinda hard to get. But she's definently jealous of someone because the one person is wearing offwhite pinstripes? *must listen to it more*

add on to: Build God Then We'll Talk
The "purse of a different kind" is drugs. That song is about how Fremont Street is sleezy and slummy (which it is, if you ever go there, pay no attention to the drug selling hobos, 'k?) and about crime and stuff... I think.
See, you'd have to live in Vegas to get some parts of their songs(cuz they hint about it, 4th and Fremont street is the slummiest of the slums). It's the same way with the Killers.

that is all I can get so far, *prods ipod* I must go listen to the album more and read the lyrics... over and over again.
