To begin let me tell you how strongly I advocate meditation. This will be the key to most of your practice and will provide an anchor for all further work. Now lets define meditation, it's the clearing of mind and relaxation of body. Start at the top of your head and work mucle by mucle down to your feet relaxing each mucle individually. By the time you reach your feet other mucles will have tenced up again, so go back down from head to toe untill you have it right. Whenever a thought comes to mind just calm it by saying to yourself, "There will be time for you later, right now this is the most important thing." once you have mastered this skill it's time to move on to dream work.

I understand that meditation may not be the easyest thing for unquiet minds to master, but please don't skip over this step. It's the best way to shield yourself and helps greatly in every practice that I will teach. When the time comes for you to venture into the world of the dead the beginning step will be meditation. everything revolves around this vital skill. PLEASE I cannot stress enough just how important this skill is.

I hope this lesson has been informative, and I'll be answering any questions you have.

So, lets say- hypothetically-
I have several preserved human skulls lying around my house.

How do I make good use of them?

woah hold on a tick. Isnt necromancy bringing life back into the dead, kinda like What happend to Jesus? And why is there no explanation of your title?

Necromancy has nothing to with with bringing life to the dead, for once a person is dead theres no way to be sure its them you're bringing back. And they would never be the way they were, even if you knew it was that person you wanted to 'save'.

then what exactly ARE you trying to accomplish by necromancy? the summoning of a spirit? the awakening of lifeforms on other planes?

I'm not skoosh - but I practice necromancy also (and she helped me a bit with it too, actually) so I suppose I can answer that question. Usuually, necromancy is used to communicate with the deceased - from what I've noticed, to gain insight into the future, or lost knowledge about the past. Some people say necromancy can be used to reanimate corpses (but, rather then bringing back the dead, you'd probably get the equivalent to a zombie) - however, the latter seems either very, very difficult or just unlikely.

I heard a rumor once- I can't vouch for it as I haven't met the people involved- that an friend of mine met someone who was involved in a situation where necromancy was used to put the soul of a dead person into a fetus, and the baby was then born with the dead person's soul. That's really the only example of actual necromancy that I've ever even heard of.

Wouldn't simple communicating with the dead be better referred to as channeling or mediumship or something along those lines?

There's another possibility for Necromancy, though I like to think of it more as Biokinesis. Necromancy can also be used to heal wounds faster, or so I've heard. Just like reanimating the dead, on a smaller scale it can reanimate dead cells. If you can reanimate dead cells, you may also be able to manipulate them, causing blood to, perhaps, coagulate faster and raise in platelette count, causing the wound to scab faster.

Unfortunately, this isn't testable. It remains a theory and a theory alone, but perhaps if you were to give it a shot it would, perhaps, be worth it.

Like the T-Virus?

Anyway, placing the soul of the decaesed into a fetus is not necromancy, it's forced reincarnation. I hate to sound like a broken record, but the IOT use it to continue working past the natural limitations on lifespan. If your interested (in reading about it, NOT practicing it) try getting a copy of Liber Null.

Dear God in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name, save us all from anime, pop fiction, idiots and fools, and the twisting of language until no one knows what the original words mean...

...

For the Record, necromancy is divination through communication with the spirits of the dead. Pyromancy is divination through fire (ie. stare at a flame until you see something in it), geomancy is divination based on features of a landscape or by casting (AKA dump the knucklebones or runes on the ground and see how they fall), bibliomancy is divination by opening a book to a random page and interpreting whatever's written there to fit your situation... Palmistry's other name is chiromancy.

You know how to use a dictionary! That should probably be considered a prerequisite for learning how to meditate. At the very least, an awareness that language varies from user to user would be helpful. To quote Humpty Dumpty (well, loosely - I don't feel like searching for my copy of Alice in Wonderland): "How can you possibly know what I meant by 'glory' until I've told you?"

Of course, it *is* helpful to provide an intro to one's topics in order to dissuade this type of linguistic hoo-hah. Some people on this guild will always be newbs, and must be treated with some care. No, I do not mean that some people are eternal newbs (or at least I don't have anyone *particular* in mind), I mean that there will always be people coming here who are curious or just starting out, and will need some hand-holding.

An eternal newb is a n00b. Are you sure you don't know any? *laughter* I can think of at least one who sticks around here, and I've seen several more on various occasions.
