Located within Barton, bordering on the slums and and the nicer sections of town, a large building stands. Unmolested by the gangs of the area, it's a large villa that serves as a hostel, practicing quite a bit of legitimate business. It contains a rather spacious common room for the patrons, a well stocked kitchen, a master bedroom for the owners, and 4 other bedrooms for the patrons. The building is a classic white plaster and bare wooden beam design, looking homely with a smokestack from the large fireplace in the commons merrily puffing smoke out at all hours.

However, despite the pleasant appearance, this place is actually the main headquarters for the Life Clan. Beneath the building through a secret passage in the wine cellar, the real construct begins. The place, though brightly lit and well furnished, holds a no-nonsense aura of military precision. All of the walls, floors, and ceilings are concrete, making the place safe and secure from collapses, even if the Villa burned to the ground. The complex actually sprawls out beneath the neighborhood, being quite large, filled with points to secure the building, such as barred doors and dropping gates. It is quite large enough to hold the Life Clan and all of its erroneous members and keep them serviced.

Eradiel led Xander through the Villa and into the wine cellar below. Over his shoulder he still held the young healer's deceased father. His eyes no longer held the same attentiveness they had in the city.

"Once we get into the inner sanctum, I want you to go and get some food and a few stiff drinks. I'll see to getting some medical attention..." The swordsman eyed up Opaj, he still seemed completely out of it. "Do you think you can do that?"

"Uh..." Direction... orders... Xander snapped to attention; still not quite grasping the full gravity of the situation, he was at least now responding to his immediate surroundings. "Yeah, I can do that. Um, just for myself? Or do I need to bring it somewhere?"

((We're erroneous now, are we? xd ))

"Grab food for yourself, and a flask of whiskey."

'It seems that Xander's instincts are sharp despite the situation, that is admirable trait indeed,' Eradiel thought to himself.

"Once you've fetched that," he continued, "bring it to the medical treatment wing, room 04A. I'll take your father there now."

Eradiel turned around and began to move away towards his medical wing.

"Uh, right," Xander (yeesh, you almost got me writing opaj, too... sweatdrop ) headed towards where he vaguely remembered the kitchen being. Fortunately, his memory was not too far off, and he soon found some nondescript meat and a flask of alcoholic beverage.

After a few laps through the halls, he finally managed to find the medical wing, and quickly made his way to where Eradiel and Xander's father waited.

"I'm here," Xander pointlessly announced.

((Whoops, sorry about that. sweatdrop ))

Eradiel took the alcohol and poured two small glasses. Handing one to Xander he said, "This is to steady your nerves a bit." Looking over at Xanders deceased father he continued in a softer tone, "healing is not a part of my training, so I do not know if anything can be done. I grieve for your loss."

"Left here... straight on through this street... Here it is!" Al'erka started humming cheerfully as she stepped through the door to the house and floundered around a bit for the entrance to the secret passage, waving energetically to everyone she passed in her way through the complex. Blinking curiously at her new surroundings, she glanced around for anyone who was not mindlessly going about their business or might need a hand, somewhere.

A man sits upon the building's roof, feet tangling over the sidem he gazes out over the surrounding landscape. His expression is one of thought and muse, he wonders what is ahead for this clan, these people. The wind softly gusts through azure hair, the light playing on it and shifting it's color from cerulean, to onyx, to alabaster, and back again. His hair had always been like that...just one of the many oddities he had retained since birth. Holding a medium sized fan at his side, he continued to sit in silence and ponder away...

((No sweat, it happens.))

"Thank you," Xander said as he took the glass and looked at it uncertainly. Well, he was in no condition to question the wisdom of his elders. He downed half of it in one gulp. The liquid burned slightly going down, but years of working with potions had steeled him against such effects.

Suddenly reminded if his father's death, Xander heavily sat down in a nearby chair. "Y-yeah..." He stared at the floor. At this moment, he wanted nothing more than to be able to turn everything off, to simply cease to exist until the pain passed.

Eradiel had experienced the loss of his own parents, albeit he did not learn the nature of their demise or that they were in fact dead for some time. However, he did understand the pain that Xander must be feeling.

"I know that this is probably a lot to handle right now, but the best thing to do is to focus on the here and now," he said. Years of structured development and hardened responses made it hard for the swordsman to emote very well, but he tried his best. "You must accept what has happened, and try to continue moving forward. Part of living is the death we must all face at some point. By perservering against hardship may we find the best path to a wholesome life. Remember to choose an appropriate amount of grief, dwelling to long on feelings of depression will only leave you worse for wear..."

Eradiel realized he was sounding quite preachy and his speech trailed off. This probably wasn't what the young man wanted to hear right now.

"I'll leave you to your thoughts, as I have intruded into your personal life a bit too far. If you need anything, feel free to ask."

He got up and began to move to the far side of the room, where he'd await Lumitae's arrival.

Xander continued to stare at the floor as Eradiel went through his speech. He opened his mouth to speak when the swordsman trailed of, but he could find no words. So, instead, he ended up sitting their with his mouth gaping open.

"Y-yeah..." he replied as Eradiel took to the other side of the room.

Lumitae went about the place as if he owned it. Well, that wasn't far from the truth, really. Even if the building was in the name of the older couple who ran the place, he was the one who ran all of the things unseen to the public eye. Nodding to the old woman behind the counter as he entered the building, a smile ready for her, he strode through and quickly made his way into the cellar. he was still holding onto Cali's hand, but in a simple, trusting way, not one that was dragging her about place to place.

Having entered through the hidden passage within the cellar, the two of them now stood in the majesty of the underground facility, spartan decorations depicting the glory of the Life Clan. "This is the home of the Life Clan. It's safe here. You can come here any time."

Cali trembled as she looked around, still holding tightly to Lumitae's hand. If she were any bigger, she probably would have cut off the blood flow, but her hand was no larger than a child's. She shook even more as they went down the cellar, giving him a look as if to say "We're going down there?!" Nothing she could do about it now- she was in a completely different town. And who knows, maybe the throat-cutting Death Cult was here, too, just waiting for her outside the 'safety' of the building.

She stared about in awe, half surprised they weren't in a dungeon of sorts. She still clung helplessly to his hand, nowhere near ready to let go yet, but instead began pulling -him- around as she looked at everything in the room.

Eradiel sensed his lord, the White Willow when he entered the Villa. That was one of the advantages to the pledge of protection he had sworn. Turning to the doorway, he spoke to Xander, "When you feel you are able, please seek out Lumitae and I. Today's activities give me reason to believe we are going to have our hands full in the coming days." With that he left.

He quickly traversed the underground hallways, taking the shortest route to where he believed Lumitae was. The bond he had didn't tell him exact location, just general distance. After a short while, he found the armorclad paladin. Taking a militaristic stance, he spoke quickly but clearly.

"Xander is in the medical bay with his deceased father. I believe Kharan is with you, and I have not seen Al'erka. I assume you know of what happened here in Barton today and..." His eyes fell to Cali, and his eyebrow raised quizzically, but only for a moment. His attention returned to the Life Clan leader. "Your orders sir?"

Xander wasn't fully aware of what Eradiel had said, but he nodded vacantly nonetheless. A single ant scurried across the floor and into his vision. It was carrying a crumb, though how and why it had come from the kitchen to the infirmary was a mystery. Xander's eyes followed the insect for several minutes until it vanished into a crack in the wall.

Looking back up, Xander felt both a deadening of reality and a lifting of the haze. Everything was clear, but unreal. Taking the room in, he got back up to his feet and walked to one of the cabinets. Finding several standard medicinal herbs, nothing too specialized but relatively potent, he stuffed them in the pouches hanging from his belt, before turning to walk out the door and search the halls, seeking out his superiors.
