[[note for anyone that reads my journal: judas is fixed]]
It was a crisp day, edging on the warmer side and almost tempted to look like spring. Little trees had grown back some leaves, weeds were pushing through the spaces between the canvas of the sidewalks. The park was open, and though it was still bare people took strolls along the paths and sat in the benches and performers waited for money in their hats. Verne herself was demonstrating a few of those: she was seated on a faded wooden bench, absently watching a mime as he silently acted and hoped for a few coins. Every time a half hour passed she would get up slowly and place a pair of dollars in his collection jar and he would theatrically thank her without words. She would nod with a small smile and Judas in turn would flash for less than a second a bright light that turned the dull city day to a country sunrise. The mime would go back to his work.
She sat down again from giving two more dollars and taking a quick count of the money she'd donated. There was six dollars in there, nothing more, and when she'd originally come there was nothing at all. So was the life of a performer. She glanced away from him and at the passerby on the paths, couples and runners and other things. A few people with bulbs and lamps. Judas glinted at a sconce on someone's shoulder and it flashed back once as they recognized each others' type.

Rum pulled her jacket in tight as she walked into town. Dreary tucked in closer to the crook of her arm, and she pulled the tiny spiderman cap further over the little bulb. The day wasn't nearly as cold as Rum dressed for, but she had the chills from a recovering cold. Dreary was fine, but Rum wasn't about to take any chances.
She meant to make a strait shot for the library, as Dreary had never heard Encyclopedia Brown and Rum thought that would make for an excellent lead into a game of espionage, but she became distracted by the fact that a mime was performing in the park.
"Oh! Dreary! That's a mime!"
The bulb glinted in confusion and peered out from Rum's arm. The mime looked spooky. And not the fun kind. Dreary leaned out of Rum's pocket and spotted Verne sitting on the bench. Dreary recognized the sconce bulb on her shoulder as a bulb who lived nearby, and blinked twice brightly. Rum stopped imitating the mime and looked in the direction Dreary was trained.
"Verne! Hi!" Rum waved, instantly forgetting the mime.

Verne found herself interrupted by a longer beam from Judas and shook the light out of her eyes while it died. The little glass thing seemed to be facing one direction and it made sense, suddenly, as a greeting with her name came from that way. Verne turned, and then smiled: someone she knew. She waved in return, though lighter and less enthusiastic. Judas glittered and faded.
"Fancy seeing you here," said Verne, voice pretentious while she wasn't. It was all a play, like the mime in front of her; her joke was revealed by the smile still on her face. She noted Dreary and, more importantly, what it was wearing, and blinked. Judas did the same.
