From what I've seen, A good handfull of you lovely irish folk already know a good ammount of our native tongue.

But there are a few deprived (such as myself) that would likly want to learn some of it. Is there anything you can teach us?

There are a few good online guides out there, but if there are classes offered in your area, it's best you try to take those. Nothing is better for learning a language than actually using it on a regular basis.

Here in an online English <-> Gaeilge dictionary. You might think it's useless if you don't know sentence structure, but it's not. With some terms you look up, full phrases are offered. Fine for quick reference.

Here are some basics...

Here is a nice pronunciation guide.

Here is a good translation forum. You can ask very skilled Gaeilge speakers about anything there, and they have even more links for you.

I'm not that good at Gaeilge, but I think I can use it well enough. If you have specific questions, I can try to answer them for you.

Hey don't worry most of the generation from about 20-13 at the moment can't even string a proper Irish sentence together.

Im not too bad at it once I put the effort in.

Irish isn't the...best thing to ask me personally. I went to the U.S. of A. and met some people who asked me to speak some Irish. I said, "You know, to tell you the truth, I know not one word of Irish, except maybe to say 'hello'. Sorry."
I can speak French!
Mais oui, je parle franc, ais tr'es bien. (I go to France often)

If there are any Gaians in the Toronto area, I believe the U of T offers not only gaelic but Welsh courses. Being too poor to make it to Toronto, I had to content myself with a dictionary/phrasebook. Try to find one of those, it might help.

I've notice that some of the threads in this guild forum seem to be in Irish and I know I couldn 't chat in one of those, but would anyone be interested in making an organized stab at basics. Like counting to 10 or 100, colors, animals?

We could take turns consulting dictionaries, phrase books, etc. and presenting 1 to 3 inches and then replying/ discussing/ practicing it.

What do you think?
