Sorry if I'm supposed to have a tag in the title, I didn't know what to put. This thread is directed at female members of the guild who are bisexuals, lesbians, or any other variety of girls who like girls. I found out about this recently, the purple string (link leads to a Myspace blog). Just a simple purple string around the wrist, like a bracelet, or attached somewhere to you, etc. Someone has proposed it as a way to discreetly identify yourself as a female who is open to other females. As the blog states: Quote: the basic idea of sie purple string: -an easy way to i.d. each other as lesbians on the street or at starbucks -wear a purple string of yarn around your wrist to indicate that youre an available lezzy/lady-lover -spread the word to your gays. -i get to hit on you without being worried that youre straight. -world domination. Quote: lots of girls have asked if they should wear this if theyre bi. my opinion is, if you are interested in other women, and want them to be able to identify you as a lady-lova, then yes, you should! if the girl at the starbucks (see story below) was wearing a purple string, and i went up to her and we started talking, i wouldnt care if she was bi because its about the conversation *we* were having. not about who she sometimes dates. to me, the purple string is more about a subtle way to i.d. a chick who you have a chance with and/OR have something in common with, than as solely a lesbian pride thing. its about BOTH, but to me, its more about the i.d. I think it's a good idea, so I'm trying to spread it so it can become a reality 3nodding Discussion points: arrow The purple string idea, similar ideas arrow Views on showing pride/letting people know what you are arrow Being sneaky ninja arrow Ever had trouble with wondering if someone was straight or not?

O= I like the idea. I was thinking about "Jeez, how the heck can I tell the difference between straight and bi/les girls? There must be a way..." xd Unfortunately, the only thing I could come up with was a very...offending sign so I didn't bother with it. But the sting is a secretive way to let someone know, although it'll take some time for word to get around..

Hahaha, I rather like that idea. It's cute, subtle, and definitely very useful. I've actually seen something like that used before in the anorexic/bulimic community--although, that had a rather more negative association for me. Last thing I'd think to do with such a good idea is help girls who are starving themselves find other girls who are starving themselves so they can all starve themselves to death together. T__T I usually don't like to announce to people I haven't met that I'm gay (bisexual), since guys get all over me and think I'm some kind of a slut or that I'll be willing to do a threesome with them (I won't). But if you're around me long enough, I basically fling hints all over the place. By that I mean, cute girl walks by, I will probably say "ZOMG she's cute" after she walks by or something. So I'm not terribly secretive about it, either.
So, a string method like that would definitely be a bonus because perverts most people wouldn't be able to tell what it meant, it's not an invitation for unwanted attention or any kind of a come-on, and it gets the message across to the group you're targeting. That'd also help cut some of the angst that we all go through in wondering whether a girl's gay/taken. XD Awesome.

This is the first time I've heard of this. Anyway, I don't tell people what my sexuality is, that is unless I can trust them. But then again, this new idea is pretty good, and wonderful. It gives people a better chance to know if someone is straight or not.

I hope the straight people don't catch on, thinking it a fashion statement and doing it themselves (or they'll be getting some lesbian action). xd

I tried it today. Didn't get noticed, nor did I see anyone with one. What makes it harder is that it's winter so everyone's wrists are covered... I wonder if it will catch on...
