I know this probably seems wierd to post as a topic on its own, but I feel that this is worth it, due to the comment someone made about the cover (See the announcement for the cover and the comments =P)

First thing that came into my head was that this cover smacks of World of Make Believe.
On golden wings
She flies at night
With her dress
It's blinding white
Countless diamonds

And her long blonde hair
The queen is coming
So you better be aware

Her plums and flowers
They are never the same
Blue and silver
It's all her game
Flying dragons
And enchanted woods
She decides, she creates
It's her reality

In her world of dreams and make believe
She reigns forever
With all her glory

Unicorns appear in her sight
The fireflies lead her trough these woods at night
In search of the legendary amulet
And it's secret
In the big oak there is a door
Which will lead her
To the wizard shore
And she'll ask him
For the wind to sail her home
To the world where she belongs

In her world of dreams and make believe
She reigns forever
With all her glory
In this world of endless fantasy
She makes it happen
It's her reality

In her world of dreams and make believe
She reigns forever
With all her glory
In this world of endless fantasy
She makes it happen
It's her reality

The white dress, jewels, amulet and throne are fairly straightforward, but all are mentioned in Word of Make Believe. The covering over her eyes blinkers her view of the world (ie its her reality) and that it is a world of fantasty. The fact she is on a throne above the clouds links to "For the wind to sail her home, to the world where she belongs"...

Also, I can see links to "The Swan Song" with the golden hues of the cover representing the sund being warm on her face. And possibly the white Doves are the "Days of her life passing her by"

And thinking about it some more, the birds (all of them) could represent the sparkling/fallen Angels, and also the true intentions mentioned in "The Promise", you know, like the white birds are the facade, and the Crow is the real intentions.

I am sure if I thought about it some more, I could come up with other references. MAybe there is something in one of the songs about setting something freE? which links to the white doves again?

Anyway, maybe that is just my overanalytical mind kicking in again, post here what you think. <^.^>

Nice analysis.
I believe Sharon said in an interview that the cover was full of small details that could mean different things to different people.
Though I do see the conections you made with your analysis, maybe this means you really like "World of make believe", "The promise" and all the other songs you mentioned.
This is what I find really cool about the cover, it has tons of meanings mrgreen

blackeri's stuff is amazing. x3
I discovered her a while ago. O:
And yes, i can see what you mean! With the Avarice picture.
And that's a really good analysis. I don't think many people would take the time to see it like that. x3

I listened to a interview today and I translate ... (I hope my english is n't crapp today)

the theme of the cd is: What do YOU find important in life, and are you being critical to the world again? the society and to yourself?

I thought Sharon looked like three personifications. Justice, because she's blindfolded, Peace, because of the doves, and Fortune, because of the jewels.

I think you can analyse it in many ways. All the ways are interesting and worth listening to.

I just thought the cover looked awesome XD Does anyone know if Within Temptation is somewhat of a Christian band? Some songs seem to have a "Christian" motive behind them "up that hill, Angels, etc." Yet others don't~ Does anyone know? It really bothers me XD

All interpretations are interesting...but to be honest when I saw the cover I had very different opinion than I have now, after reading your point of view!

the band isn't christian.. Sharon went to a christian school growing up though so the elements are there at times
i read somewhere that Robert said the main element in the cover was lady Justice and how Justice is blind.... along those lines

I've heard before that the fact that she's holding different religious symbols on the cover is supposed to stand for peace between different religions.

I suppose it really just depends on how you analyze it, though.
