yes i actually play Magic the Gathering I myself have about 3 decks a blue/black deck focusing on decking the other guy a red deck focusing on direct damage and a green deck which summed up in one word OWNAGE!!! blaugh
but tips wise your best bet would be since you have a blue/black deck the best ones ive seen are usually decks that focus on decking, discard, or counterspell tho the counterspell one is mainly just blue

for beginners its sometimes easier to stick to one colour deck an then start mixing when you understand the game more

actually to start out (im not a real expert on starting ive been playing this game since i could read and my older brothers gave me a good footing to begin) my suggestion would be one of the pre-made decks my personal favorite being the kamigawa series FEUDAL JAPAN ROCKS!!!

Aw, I love magic, tis so fun... A blue deck is good to have as a beguinner, but black, though it may look cool, isn't really good for newer players. After you have learned some more of the tricks of the game, then star trying with th black deck and you'll find that it isn't as fustrating as it once was wink

I alsosuggest white or green, plains or forest, they are easy to use and pay back right away in play

lol a good start would be to get the two player starter set usually at about 20.00 to 24.00 that gives you two decks a rulebook and a game demo to help you understand how to play the game at least that was what mine was note it was seventh edition te last one i bought

i got a red deck (i used to have a black/red deck) my deck focuses on causeing mass damage in one to two turns
(also stink i gotta face u again i will win this time (also do u know where leon is (i know hes in the military but i mean when he will be bac (even for a small visit)) i got a card to cancel his wall/mass heal tactic)
for first timers a blue (mass flyers) white (healing) deck is better
then green (first strike) red (immediate damage) white (resurrect, healer) blue (flyer, continual card recall/drawing) or black (distroying enemy monster/lands, and makeing enemy have less attack or def) for intermediate
and green (landwalker (swamp, forest, plain, water, mountin walkers), first strike, mass lands) white (wall, resurrect, healer, stop spirit creatures damage) red (immediate damage, mass horde attacks (ALOT of the same creatures with a spell card that causes damage for each of them), and cancel blue spells) blue (flyer, continual card drawing, canceling enemy card drawing) black (destroying enemy cards (creatures, lands, cards in grave, and cards in hand), canceling white cards, mass sprit, rat, or undead attacks, and makeing enemy have less attack or def) for expert players
there are ALOT of other stratigies but these are the stratigies that i bumped into or use (also only combine colors if you understand the game other wise you may bump into a death battle (a battle with an opponent thats deck is set up to cancel most of your attacks(like leon))) (also make sure you know and understand EXACTLY what EACH of your card special abilities do (otherwise one of your card abilities may do something to you that you didnt expect)) (also sorry if i scared some people away from the game)
(EDIT: i cleaned it up so it is easier to read (i hope))

also another word of hand do not fear if you lose your first game that just means you need to work on your deck a little more maybe add some more cards maybe take a little out

I had a freind who would always kill himself with black (by accident of course). Black tends to hurt a little if you can't use it correctly.
