Dragonballz: Shin Budokai Another Road (Playstation Portable)

[Opening Movie]

Now, Playing this game at first reminded me of exactly like Budokai 3, The battle system seems to be almost exactly like it. Not saying its a bad thing, thats the last thing I would say about this game.

Now, the first thing I did is went into practice and tried the system out. I was quite impressed with all the dodging and movements, they seemed to work exactly how they should. They have different characters, but I think they could still have had a lot more, I mean, space isn't really a problem, I just think it was out of laziness.

Graphics 7/10

The graphics are much different from the other games, the effects and attacks are great, they look smooth no jitter nothing, but the character models are really bad looking, and no mouth movement? I know you can do that on the psp, I've seen it. (Ex: Syphon Filter Dark Mirror)

But the battlefields look great, everything works perfectly on it.

Now, on the maps in the "Another road" story looks really bad, I can't sugar coat it, I can almost not even stand it, but its in a kinda funny way that I like playing on the maps.

Gameplay: 8.5/10

Now when in story mode and playing on these distrusting maps they even play bad. You can turn wile flying fast, and upon that you gotta do retarded stuff like stop villains from blowing up towns and stuff. But, its playable, just gets old after awhile because of the Same thing being used every single time...

Now, the fighting is completly different, its smooth, fast, and does everything you tell it to do. The battle system is basically a copy of Dragonballz Budokai 3(PS2), but it does it in a way where it still feels fresh. You can dodge, use energy attacks, specials, and everything. But, I expected as much, it was fixed more in this game then others but not as much as it should, is the combo system, what has happened to it? Theres no I punch/kick with the same button most of the time, and theres like 10 combos, WTH? I can't stand playing against a friend and most of the time an easy two button combo finishes me off. Also, the characters don't seem to act very differently, they seem, the same and bland, but that was expected because of the way the other games have been.

But, over all, very nice, and works as a good fighting system.

Sound: 8/10

The sound is great, we got voice overs, and everything.

The voices do get used way to much, you always here the same sayings and stuff if you win/lose, which gets old. But the Attack noise, and everything sound great, and the music is good also, but still a little annoying after awhile.

Theres also the choice between English/Japanese voice overs.

Extras: 5/10

Where is all the extras at?

We got our profile cards, which are exactly like the original with new stuff.

ONLY ad hoc mode, which means, no Internet Multilayer? WTH?

No tournament or anything, just a "Challenge" mode?

Also, no real customization, just cards you add to increase your Ki, health, and different attack/guard skills. They need to use capsules...

OVERALL: 8.1/10

I feel this is a nice addition to the DBZ franchise but I still think it needs some work to be complete. Lets hope they fix these flaws.

If anyone wants any screen shots I take my own, These are all from my psp, so If you need anything let me know.

Thanks alot for the review, and it pretty much shares the same feelings and veiws i have on it. I just bought it yesterday and played it for about an hour total so far,not much time seeing that i just graduated air force military training and finally got to use a computer for the first time in seven weeks. stressed But it's great to see the guild still going and i'll be stopping in regularly as usual now that I'm, more or less, back into the world. lol One thing i want to comment on is WTF is up with all the damn nasty looking jagged edges? You cant tell me it's a problem with the PSP's screen seeing that I've seen alot of games that do not have jagged edges in the graphics like this, Shin and GGX for PSP are the only ones so far that are this bad with it and it really detracts from the games overall package to have that problem.

Yeah, I don't really know why they're there. Its something that should have been fixed. And your welcome.
