hypnocrown I've only heard about it on Club Nintendo so I don't know much I'm afraid. I do know that it is very similar to FFTA and that's about it... rolleyes Aaah, but that's where your wrong my dear friend. The two games only share one similar trait: The class system, and even that is only remotely similar. Basically, here's the premise. You create units of 3-5 characters (a lot of these. upwards of 10 and more), and issue commands to these units. Tell them where to go, have them fight other units (where it will go to a battle scene), capture strongholds, etc. Something that makes the game really interesting, is that you can't control what your characters do once they get into a battle. Where's the stratagy in that? You may be asking. Well, You have to create units that are balanced. Units that can survive in battle without your help, and that's where the fun lies. However, what makes the game so cool is that within' each unit, you choose the position where they will stand, and this effects what action they'll take. For instance, A paladin will slash 3 times in the front row, and cast a healing spell once in the back. Valkyries will swing twice in the front, or cast two lightening spells in the back row. Something else that effects the game is the type of movement each unit has. For instance, a unit that has a griffon will be a flying unit, while a unit with a hellhound in it will have great movement over mountains. See? There's a lot of stratagy that goes into this game. Let's say that you want a unit that will kill bosses easily. You might have two knights in the front row, to absorb the bulk of the damage, two wizards, since they can target anyone in the enemy unit, and a cleric to heal everyone's wounds. See? Or, maybe you want a fast unit that can capture strongholds very easily. 3 Black knights and a griffon could accomplish that no problem. Want one that can kill waves of weak enemies with no problem? How about a mage (different from a wizard), two ninja masters, and two black knights? the ninja masters and the mage all have area effect spells, so they can destroy waves of minions easier than characters that have strong, single hi attacks. See? I know that my description wasn't the greatest, but I love the games a lot. Ogre Battle 64 was the best one in my opinion. The alignment system was perfect, and the story is possibly the best of any video game I've ever played. The things that you do really do effect the world around you. If you're a chaotic type of person (not evil, but sort of do your own thing), then certain characters, such as Destin the Great and Aisha the priest won't have anything to do with you. However, Biske the Werewolf would love to join you, since he's chaotic two. Likewise, play a lawful role, and Biske would spit on you first, and Destin would be more than happy to join your ranks. See? Well, there's my spill on it. Ogre Battle 64 was better in my opinion, but Ogre Battle for the SNES is a great game too.

WOW Emerald Charm! You really love yer Ogre Battle, doncha? mrgreen I can't remember much about the review I read on OB but, I do remember seeing some pics and the battlefields looked exactly the same as the ones in FFTA. I can see why you like them. Too bad I missed the chance of playing the SNES one and since I didn't care much for the N64, I missed that version as well. I hope to see the N64 version released for the Nintendo DS someday. That would be great, don't you think? After all, some great hits on the N64 have already been re-released for the DS so another one wouldn't be bad.

Hypo, I just figured out what you're taking about. You're thikning of "Tactics Ogre", a gaiden, or Side Story, of the Ogre Battle series. It's an easy mistake. Yes, Tactics Ogre shares many similarities with FFTA, but actually came out on the SNES, and anotherwas released for the GBA. Hypno, have you considered emulation? http://romnation.net/An emulator (SNES9X is my reccomendation), and the rom is all you'll need. I personally like the 64 version more, but the SNES one is very good too.

Oh my, I was confused then, he-he. Oh well.. rolleyes
As for emulation, I can't. I don't own a PC and I use this computer at the office to come here. That and, I rather have the actual game and play it any time on a console than on a computer. I'll look up the SNES version if I ever get the chance. 3nodding

The actual game will set you back quite a bit if you try to buy it. Still, I don't blame you. Also, I'd highly reccoment just getting a nintendo 64 and a copy of OB 64. That's about how much the one on SNES is going to cost if you try to buy it, so you might as well get the better game, and a enw game system whie your at it. ^_^

Well, you can dream, but it ain't happening. If it were a nintendo Exclusive, maybe, but Ogre Battle, and Tactics Ogre were both released for the PS1.

Well, if the company that made those games was not Sony, maybe someday they can actually be released for the DS cuz the two consoles (DS & PS1) share basically the same technology. mrgreen

Well, just look at the graphics of each console. I heard somewhere that both the PS1 and the N64 had similar graphics, no real change in them. The difference, as I heard it, was that the N64 was more geared into real time graphic events (like Ocarina of Time) while the PS1 had more FMV (full motion videos) like in FF7. So, I was thinking that if the folks at Nintendo managed to re-release a game like Mario 64 for the DS with better graphics on the DS (not to mention more features like, the mini-games for instance), then why not have Ogre Battle or Tactics Ogre re-released for it as well? The touch screen could make the gameplay more dinamic, you know... 3nodding

I was thinking about that myself. My main problem with Ogre Battle is the fact that it's a pain to try and navigate the map with the D-Pad, or the analog stick. The touch screen would be a godsend in this case. Click a unit, then click their destination, or maybe draw a path for them to follow, or something. It really would make a great game, unfortunately I can only hope it will come to fruition...
