Yeah, if I see an item, piece of clothing/accescory/anime that happens to be kawaii, my mum immeidietly assumes it's babyish and won't let me buy it! I know I'm not 8 anymore, but come on,, anyone can be kawaii!
I think the problem is that my town is boring and my mum doesnt want me to stand out. But I do already with my, well, wierdness, so why can't I dress kawaii, or buy anything kawaii? Any advice on making her change her mind?

Tell her to stop being so anti-kawaii. Tell her just because she couldn't stay kawaii doesn't mean you can't hold on to your inner kawaii.

Have you tried working it in slowly? Like add a cute necklace to a normal outfit and work up from there? Maybe if she gets "desentized" to it, she won't notice it as much. Just my 2 cents. heart

Just my 2 cents. heart That's actually a pretty good idea. If I have any money left from when I see McFly in concert next week, I'll go shopping on my own and start there.

I'm so sorry your mom is such a pain. I really do not understand parents who do that (epesicllay to teenagers..that's the prime time in your life to figure out who you are and what you like..especially being kawaii!!!! XD). I like the advice others gave you. ^_^ I hope it works! biggrin

For the whole kawaii thing, I will say only this... It really depends on your definition of kawaii... there is cute, but what about cool?

I'm 14. My mums trying to stop me wearing bright colours now. "Oh my god you're making too much of a statement" She says.

Hehe, seems like Mana-san gave the greatest idea. I agree, though.
Also, if you're only 14, I think it's not that big of a shocker to wear kawaii clothes. There's no such thing as "Too much of a statement". You are who you are, and if you feel better wearing cute, bright coloured clothes, so far the better. Whatever makes you feel most comfortable is what you're supposed to wear. Try to make her understand that. That it's not about being noticed, but about being who you are, and proud about it.

anti-kawaii parents are sucky. just do it anyway. tell her just because it's cute doesn't make it babyish. if she still says no, just do small things until she gets used to it I guess..
