I am a big fan of the series, but feel like its started to be under cutted. Anyone agree?

I don't know about that, I mean, the only ones I have played are the original and the sequel on the NES. I loved the sequel more cuz you get to control 3 characters instead of just one. Another thing is that some stuff in the game are very tough to obtain. For example, I never got a certain item that was only obtainable by beating the metal slimes. I can't remember the name of it... At least I managed to beat DW2, he-he.
Say, Dragon Warrior and Dragon Quest are the same thing, right? I ask cuz I saw a review of Dragon Quest 8 on EGM in December 2005. Too bad it was for PS2... cry

Dragon quest and dragon warrior are the same game, its just a translation error. The real name is dragon warrior, while the american translated version is dragon quest.

I know the game uses an old battle system, but it still is a great game. Yes, the old battle system does get old, and the endless running around does the same, along with the tough to gain experience, but its still a good game.

I thought they were the same thing... I don't know where I heard this but, I did hear that Dragon Quest was the original Japanese name and that the translation was Dragon Warrior. It makes sense to me cuz I have the original American version of the second one for the NES and it is called Dragon Warrior 2, not Dragon Quest 2.
But you know, some people can handle the same thing over and over again. Take the "Tetris" lovers for instance, those games don't feel like they ever change and they still get people to buy/play them. I don't like those kinds of games cuz they feel like the very SAME thing over and over again. However, as for RPGs and stuff, as long as they have different characters, a different storyline and a similar battle system, I'm game! mrgreen

thats the same, but it does introduce new battle increments. DQ7 had the class system, while DQ8 had the Skill system.

I have Dragon Warrior I and II for Gameboy colour, after I got Dragon Warrior III. I thought it was funny that all the characters looked like DBZ characters. But I'm stuck in III, I need that stupid yellow Orb. I haven't played in a while. >.<
I also have Dragon Warrior Monsters and then the Tara's Adventure one. I got all the way up to the end and discovered that I was so underleveled I'd have to start over again. That's the second time, I played through an entire game only to discover that I'm way too underleveled.

I like them keeping the battle system the same, it's like it's trademark. You know you're playing this kind of game when you play it. And it's easier to remember too. Then better graphics come around and mess everything up.

Ah yes, the remakes of both NES versions, huh? I bet it must be awesome to have both games in one portable package. I'd love to get my hands on one of those cartridges myself but they're nowhere to be foudn around here. Might as well get a credit card and look for one on E-bay or something...
Anyways, I hope I can someday play one of the ones with better graphs. I find it strange that Marth-chan says better graphics messed everything up. Oh well... rolleyes I know graphics don't make a game but most of the times, they complement greatly. 3nodding

Nope, no graphic can make the game. the graphics for some of the best games are usually polygoned. The Dragon Warrior games look like pokemon for the gameboy(original) and the Legend of Zelda games on the gameboy.

I have the Dragon warrior monster games, also have the Last 2 installments in the series, VII and VIII. In monster, the key is breed and not try to level much until the end, when you can kill metal kings. Always choose your roles for your monsters accordingly. Keep healing skills to all characters, just in case, and keep 2 monsters with the revive skill. Specify which monsters get what ability: High attackers should get attack skills, such as squall hit and multicut, High intel monsters should get teh best magic skills, such as Gigaslash and Megamagic.

Hmm, that monsters game sounds quite good. How many kinds of monsters are there anyway? And how do you get them in the first place?
PostPosted: Mon Apr 16, 2007 12:57 pm

200 monsters. They are obtained by killing them and charming them with meat, unlike pokèmon and the pokèball. Only down side is the max number of spaces for monsters is 3 in a party and 38 in the farm.

Oh yeah! I just read a small review about this game on Club Nintendo mag and they said there were about 250 monsters available and that you can even breed them to create new species with traits of both parents. They say that, in this way, you can create about 45,000 monsters in total. WOW! Now that's something, huh? The system to handle the monsters reminds me a bit of LoM, in which you could only carry one, and keep 4 or 5 in the farm.
So how is the beginning of it anyway? Do you start as a human hunter and you have to smoke them out or what?

Your sister gets captured by a monster named Watabou, who says that she is needed to help win the starry night tournament. You run off with the monster Warabou to give chase. You enter the kingdom of great tree and participate in the tournament as a monster warrior.

The starry night tournament's winner gets to be granted one wish of anything.

So that's how it starts, huh? Ok...

Hey umm, what's the coolest monster you've been able to create by breeding? How many classes or abilities from each parent can it have?
PostPosted: Mon Apr 23, 2007 4:48 pm

Ive only played the game for about 2 months now, but the BEST and ONLY way to get good monsters is by breeding. I'll list the formula used to determine the breeding stats:

Pedigree stats/2 + Mate's stats/4 = Child's Base stats.

Pedigree is the first monster you choose to breed. It determines the type and mixtures that the monster's child will become. The mate helps to determine the mixture. The child is automatically eligible to learn all natural skills of its parents, plus its classes own skill set. It can learn up to 9 skills, and the skills level determined upon your stats:

Magic spells= High Intel and MP
Physical skills= High Hp, High Atk, High Agi
Defensive skills= High HP and High Def

Skills can also be combined:

MegaMagic= lvl 3 fireball, lvl 3 blizzard, lvl 3 wind, lvl 3 earth plus the skill's stat requirements

Gigaslash= All slashes and All lvl 3 magics.

Most of this can be found in gamefaqs, where I obtained this info. If you do get it, you start with a slime, who automatically has the class skill Megamagic, so its advisable to keep him.
