I completely agree with you in that punk is nowhere near dead (youve just gotta know where to look).....but I do very strongly disagree with hot topic being punk.....in fact in my mind they are just as far from it as american eagle or *insert prep store here*. You can get band shirts of real punk bands there but you cant go out and just buy punk stuff.....you've gotta make it yourself.....there CANT be a punk store....that would defeat the purpose and contradict itself. I tell people this alot Punk Fashion = Oxymoron.
Even if there was a punk store it wouldnt matter because punk is all about the attitude and the idea behind it.
But yes...punk is not dead and keep on defending it!.....just no more hot topic analogies.

Punk ain't dead.
Even the bands who are long gone, like the Ramones (R.I.P Joey, Johnny, DeeDee) are still alive in the hearts and souls of their fans.
That's what keeps punk alive. Faith, and loyalty.

that reminds me. The other day in class, these two kids were making fun of me so i retorted with something that no one in the class understood, so they were all like "hahaha, you so f-ing retarded. you cant even make a good comeback" (of which they never got it. probably because i used quantum physics in it that they wouldnt understand)
so then, on eof the kids drew a stick picture of me with a speech bubble saying "I'm so punk. Not really i'm just a nerd who won't accept it."
(keep in mind, they didnt even have a CLUE the retort was related with quantum physics. he just happened to write nerd because he couldnt come up with anything better.)
THAT PISSED ME OFF. I CAN GARENTEE THAT KID DOESNT EVEN KNOW THE REAL DEFINITION OR ATTITUDE BEHIND REAL PUNK. Mind you, onw of the two kids is one of the new age typpe of jack-asses that people think are punk but if they tried to be we would know they are a poser. AKA one of those people that guve punk the stereotype of "punks are jackasses and idiots"

Music can't die, but some of the so called "punks" I sometimes see can make me doubt how well the real punk ideas are going to last. Even The Sex Pistols were a complete irony.

The punk scene is dead...or at least the original. It has had several incarnations...the whole thing is just so...self destructive. This goes for the music as well. That isnt to say that there isnt mindblowing musical incarnations of punk. Its similar, but it isnt the same.

In complete honesty, just because you can still buy CDs and shirts doesn't mean the music is alive.
As much as I love punk I have to admit that the movement is mostly dead...
Not to say that it won't come back, though.
As for the music, thats still alive and kicking...
Maybe punk is just sleeping.
