Aeric sighed, leaning back on the wall beside the window. Would it ever stop snowing? There was already a foot out there and it was still mounting. The powers that be had delayed too long in closing school for the day and now they were stuck there, like prisoners. Berylia was staying with one of the nieghbors - her school's administrators were brighter, it seemed, than those at Thorntree Academy.
Suddenly there was a tapping sound at his side. Startled, Aeric looked at the window. There, on the windowsill, shivering in the cold, was a small pigeon. "Oh, you poor dear!" the warlock exclaimed, opening the winwow and gently collecting the bird. It didn't seem hurt, merely cold. Perhaps it was a messager bird that had gotten blown into the school by the storm's winds.
"What do you have there, Aeric?" a familiar voice called.
"A pigeon, Alex. What's it look like?" he teased. The little mage brushed by his colleage towards the door. "I think it's a messenger bird. It seems tame enough. I figured I'd bring it to the headmaster."
"Don't you have enough pets, considering Chase and Berylia," the taller professor said, as he followed Aeric down the hall.
"Berylia's my neice, you pest," Aeric snapped, kowing he was being teased. "Chase isn't a pet either. He's my familiar and imminently intelligent."
"Thanks for the vote of confidence," the small terrier-like being at his side said. "What I think he means is do you have room in your little house for another being?"
"I'm sure Aremis won't be any trouble at all, old friend," he replied as the bird settled itself into his hands.
"Now he's named it," Chase said. "He'll keep it for sure." Aeric was oblivious to their continued chatter. Maybe the Headmaster would allow him to keep the little pigeon here at the school. Aremis would be useful, he was sure.

Thank you for a very nice story about Aremis.
I moved the thread here because Shakespeare's Burrow is for discussing literature/books.
