Everyone knows this old spiel!
BUT!,do you agree with the compulsory subject being taught in our schools, and to the out of country people, would you like to be forced to be taught a dying language?? Also,do you think it is taught well in schools outside of the gaelteacht??
Although,personally I enjoy speaking Irish,with my friends,but i hate it in school....bad teacher!!!!
Please discuss!!

I'm in 6th year at the moment and had my Irish oral on Thursday gonk I think its ridiculous that we have to do Irish as a cumpulsory subject..even the people that live in Gaeltachts speak lots of English anyway. Its awful having to learn a dying language that will be no use to most of students.
BUT
What really makes me soooooo angry is the extra % the "as Gaelige" people get in their Leaving Certs. Its not fair!!! Why should Irish people that dont speak fluent Irish be punished for it in the Leaving Cert? Its not like the as Gaelige people are any smarter...and they are being rewarded for doing something that comes naturally to them.

I agree 100% with you,it is a very bad flaw in the system!!I know i cant speak it to save my life but have to do honours if i want to get the points for my course!!so wheres the fairness in that!!

I just think a lot of words we have today originated from Latin words..I do Chemistry too so practically everything has came from Latin names stare And when you compare that to the impact the Irish language has made worldwide its easy to see which language is more established. I just think its the extra 10% the "As gaeilge" people get is soooo unfair sweatdrop

My mom forced us to start learning Latin and I think it was a very good idea. I actually use it too, Church Latin. Many people want to learn Irish and keep it alive.

I would love to learn Irish. I'm going to go to Ireland one day, so why not learn the language while I'm, there?
