On August 8, 2000, HIM International Music held a ‘Universal 2000 Talent and Beauty Girl Contest’ in search for new artists to be signed under their label. Her younger sister really wanted to join but was too young. Instead, Selina joined the contest in her place. The contest had about 1000 contestants and after many tiring rounds of competing, seven contestants were left for the ‘Cruel Stage’ round. The three members of S.H.E were formed from here. Following the competition, the record company gave all seven contestants an audition. Selina Ren was the actual winner of this contest. She caught the judges’ attention in the first round by singing Coco Lee’s ‘Before I Fall In Love’ and entered the final round with no trouble with ‘The Closest Stranger’. Due to her nervousness during the final round, Selina was called twice, and when she was announced the winner, she was doubtful because there were other contestants who did not get called on. However, all three future members of S.H.E were signed together under HIM International Music. Extras BioShe is (as of 2005) the only member of S.H.E to have a university degree, as her parents wanted her to have a good education. In her childhood, she hated dogs; however, after being introduced to ********* and Ella who both kept dogs, she started keeping her own dog as well. Her dog’s name, Pinky, reflects her colour preference for pink. Her height is 163 cm and she weighs 45kg. The name Selina was chosen by her company after taking a personality test; it represents “gentleness”.

During the first round, her voice started breaking while singing ‘Return Home’. ********* decided to sing a song with a lower key in the final round. However, because she was unfamiliar with that song, she forgot the lyrics in the finals, messing up her performance. Nonetheless, the manager appreciated her straight personality. Therefore, she were registered under HIM International Music.
********* vocal range is from a low G# of one and a half octaves below middle C on the piano to a high F# two and a half octaves above middle C. In other words, her total vocal range is 4 octaves of 49 notes or about two times that of a normal person’s voice of two octaves or 25 notes. Her favourite kind of music is alternative rock.
********* Tian is a member of popular Taiwanese girls group, “S.H.E” which is arguably the most popular girl group in the Chinese pop culture. S.H.E consist of 3 members.. Selina Ren, ********* Tian and Ella Chen. ********* is the youngest among the 3.
In year 2000, a talent quest was organized by HIM International Records in Taiwan, namely “Universal 2000 Talent and Beauty Girl Contest.” Selina Ren was the eventual winner, together with ********* and Ella, they were selected to form a girls group, S.H.E.
S.H.E released their first album “Girls’ Dormitory” in 2001, which was a great hit and after they released their 2nd album “Youth Society” in 2002.. their popularity are unstoppable.
The special thing about SHE is having 3 different girls that have totally different appearance and characteristic.. Selina is sweet and gentle, ********* is confident and naughty, Ella is courage and brave.
S.H.E also have to thank the various tv hosting jobs that got earlier in their career that helped boost their fame and popularity. The popular tv shows that hosted include “Guess, Guess, Guess” and “Happy Sunday.”
S.H.E also started acting in past 2 years, their acting career however were not as successful as their singing.
Among the 3, ********* Tian is the most unpredictable.. she can be so quiet sometimes and suddenly burst everyone into laughter with some spontaneous act. ********* is often describe as the prettiest among 3, which I tend to agree btw.
About S.H.E:
On August 12 2000, HIM records held a ‘Universal 2000 Talent and Beauty Girl Contest’ in search for some new talent to be signed under their record company. The contest attracted about 1000 people and after numerous rounds of competing, seven contestants were left for the final round. After a simple training, the seven contestants continued to compete on August 29 2000 in the ‘Cruel Stage’ round. The three members of S.H.E. were founded from here. After the competition, the record company gave all seven competitors an audition. At the beginning, only one would be given a contract, but because of their incredible performance, all three of them were signed together under HIM records. They are the three members of S.H.E. Girlfriend, Selena Ren, ********* Tien and Ella Chen.

When Ella Chen and her younger brother went to Taipei from Pingtung for a holiday, Ella’s elder sister enrolled her into the competition. She almost gave up before the first round because of the long queue of contestants, but was convinced by her sister to stay, and made her way through the final round. Her unique singing style and deep voice caught the company’s attention and made her stand out from the others.
After three of them were signed to HIM, the company did not make them a group because their different personalities and looks did not fit with what the audience were used to. But because Taiwan had never had an all-girl group with different personalities and looks, they thought that it would be new and fresh, so they boldly put the three girls together. After the three girls head this they did not really accept it, because it has not been what they were thinking. All of them came from different places. They never telephoned each other and only said ‘hi’ when they met. Because most of the songs in the album did not require them to sing together, their relationship was not very good, making the company worry. When the company then let them stay in the same room in the same dormitory, the girls were worried that they would argue because of their different personalities. But the company hoped that by this they could learn to know and cooperate with each other. To prevent them from arguing, the record company set a few rules of life for the girls living in the dormitory. After a week, the record company’s worries were gone because the three girls were closer to each other and could be mistaken as triplets! Just like that, the three girls lived in a small dormitory together for a few months and passed on flues and boredom to each other. Sometimes they would cry under their blankets because they were homesick. When they were bored, they opened the window, eating junk food and watching the stars at the same time…
