Share your ideas, opinions and experiences. I think a very important achievement in film history was the transition from silent movies to movies with sound. In my opinion, actors' voices make a very important part of their performances, also music can bring a lot to a movie, and none of this would be possible without sound films.
Of course the invention of "moving pictures" itself was a great step in showbusiness and picture industry.
The development of special effects, the possibility of using computers for rendering special effects in movies is important to me because these make an essential part of all fantasy movies that I'm a huge fan of.
I admire all pioneers, so I'd say people like Marlene Dietrich ( who introduced trousers to women's wardrobes wink ), Greta Garbo, Marylin Monroe, Clark Gable, Errol Flynn, John Wayne, James Stewart, Steve McQueen, Marlon Brando, James Dean, Alfred Hitchcock, Frank Capra..., all those who brought something new, those people shouldn't be forgotten.
Every film that explored a new territory shouldn't be forgotten.
It's really difficult to choose the best actors, actresses, directors, filmmakers. I have mentioned some of them above. I also admire Vlasta Burian, Jan Werich, Ladislav Mensik, Stella Zazvorkova, Natasa Gollova and other old Czech actors and actresses.
Movies that left me in awe were The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Harry Potter movies, Memento, The Sixth Sense, Finding Neverland, Big Fish, What's Eating Gilbert Grape? for example.
