Carneva sat on the barren hillside, staring at the muddy snow. She still wasn't used to the fact that summer was coming. She watched some of the snow melt under the hot sun and flow as water down the hill. On a sudden impluse, she stood up and found a patch of relatively unmarked snow and started rolling it into a snowball. There were practically no obstructions on the hill, and she wanted to race the snowball down to the bottom.

Meilin sneezed as she walked out of her little corner of the Crystal Caverns where she lived. A moist warmth mixed with the cold dampness in the caves, making her nose twitch and itch. She sneezed a second time before she proceeded through the winding tunnels of the Caverns and eventually found her way out into the bright sun of the coming summer. Winter had ended it? She should have paid more attention to the changing of the seasons, she decided.

Carrie rolled the snowball around the hill, finding more patches of pure snow. The snowball was getting bigger, and she decided it was almost ready to race her. As she rolled it towards another patch of snow, her foot slipped on a puddle of melted snow and her feet flew out from under her. She lost her grip on the snowball and inadvertantly started the race with the snowball.
She rolled down the hill, faster and faster. Every once in a while, she could see the mouth of a Rakki cave flash past as she sped past it, trying to stop her downward spinning.

Meilin yawned and stretched as she reached the entrance to the Caverns. Blinking, she tilted her head when she saw a large orange ball roll past the entrance at a fast speed. She trotted out a few steps and stared down the hill where the ball rolled.
What was that? she wondered, blinking curiously as the ball grew smaller the farther it rolled from her. She made her way down the hill, careful not to slip on the melting snow.

Stretching her legs out as much as she could without risking breaking them as she tumbled, Carrie scrambled for purchase on the slick ground. There were rocks at the bottom of this hill, and she was not especially enthusiastic about meeting them.
However, there was also a small overhang, Carrie knew, that was part way down the hill. She watched for the overhang, trying to aim herself that way and slow herself down once she spotted it.

Meilin followed slowly after the orange ball, still wondering what it was. She scowled at the slickness of the ground as she slipped a few times. Luckily, she managed to keep her balance and not go tumbling like the ball.
"I do hope this stuff doesn't last long," she murmured to herself after a particularly bad slip in the mud. Glancing down the hill, she saw the ball was still much farther ahead of her. Would she be able to catch up to it?

Carrie slid to a stop just before tumbling over the lip of the overhang. She lay, sprawling, on the muddy ground, grateful just to be still again at last. Stupid snowball. They'd see if she ever let it challenge HER to a race again!

Meilin found a boulder jutting out of the ground off to the side of an overhang on the mountain. She perched upon it and looked down to see the orange thing had unrolled itself. She blinked in surprise. Why it wasn't a ball at all! It was another Rakki!
"Are you all right?" she asked tentatively.

"Uhhh..." Carrie groaned as she struggled to her feet. She checked herself over. Nothing seemed to be broken; just very, very bruised, and she ached everywhere. "Hm?" She looked up to see another Rakki peering down at her. "Oh... yes. I - I think I'm fine..."

Meilin remained on her perch as she stared down at the older Rakki. "Are you sure?" she asked, tilting her head to the other side. "That tumble looked like it would have hurt. Going so fast and all."

Carrie started to climb back to the outcropping where the younger female was crouched. "Yeah, I'll be fine. I do stupid stuff like this all the time," she added with a grimacing laugh. "I don't exactly have the best motor skills all the time."

Her long green tail twitched back and forth as Meilin watched the orange Rakki. "That's not very good," she said, tilting her head to the side. She didn't like seeing others get hurt, and if this Rakki was always falling down, surely it got hurt quite a bit. Right? She hoped that analysis was incorrect.

"Eh, I'm used to it, hehe. After a while, you kind of get to the point where you can almost predict when you're going to injure yourself. This apparently wasn't one of those times, although it should have been..." Carrie had to grin at her own stupidity.

"And you're sure you aren't hurt anywhere?" Meilin asked, just to be sure. Her tail flicked slightly, thumping against her feet and the boulder she perched on. "Well, I guess if you say your aren't, then you aren't. Why would anyone lie about being not being hurt when they are?" He mind ran away on the random tangent before she shook her head and returned to the present.

Carrie's smile broadened. "A little bruised, but no worse for the wear. And that'll teach me to roll snowballs on a hill." She couldn't help laughing at her own stupidity. "My mother always wondered that I survived this long, and now I definitely can't blame her..."
