If you're interested in Inkblotters, let us know! Contact Poetess Laureate in PMs for join requests or questions. Questions can also be sent to any members on the memberlist.

Inkblotters accepts both mentors and protégés, and we deal in critiquing and writing both. Make sure we know which you're interested in!

...* It is possible to mentor in one field and protégé in another.
...* It is possible to be a mentor or protégé in one field alone.
...* It is possible to have a different mentor for one field than the other.
...* It is possible for a mentor to also be a protégé to someone else.

Requests for a specific mentor or protégé will always be entertained, but may or may not be accepted. In the interest of fairness and not overburdening anyone, the 'load' of teaching will be split fairly evenly.

...* Mentors requesting to take or keep a 'light' load will be able to do so.
...* Mentors and protégés are both allowed to request a new 'assignment' at any time.

What should we be doing?

Writing protégés should be posting to their mentor's critique thread. The mentor should then reply not only with critiques but with various exercises to aid in general improvement. The protégé should attempt these exercises.

Critiquing mentors should be discussing what makes for a good, thoughtful, in-depth critique. Meta-critique, that is critiquing a critique, is also in fact encouraged here. Mentors should consider providing example pieces for their protégé to critique, and should give general feedback to encourage 'noticing'. ("I still see some issues in the imagery you haven't covered" for example, rather than specifics. Get the protégé to start seeing it for themselves once you point them the right direction.)
