He says in School Hard
Spike [to Angel]: You think you can fool me? You were my sire, man. You were my... Yoda.
But then I was reading
William, while wandering the streets, bumped into Drusilla. She then bit him and transformed him into a vampire (cf. "Fool for Love").
IT MAKES NO SENSE

Sire can, occassionally, refer to the person who sired your sire. Like a clan type thing. Also Joss might just have forgotten what he said. I've noticed he does that from time to time.
Anyway there's no reason to post in all caps. It's just irritating.

Drusilla did the act of actually turning Spike, but because she's insane, it was Angelus that actually raised him and trained him, and fulfilled the role of 'sire'. That's why they've both been referred to as Spike's sire.

Nienna of the Valar Drusilla did the act of actually turning Spike, but because she's insane, it was Angelus that actually raised him and trained him, and fulfilled the role of 'sire'. That's why they've both been referred to as Spike's sire. Also backing up that is that Dru never refers to Spike as her son despite refering to Angel as Daddy and Darla as Grandmummy and later as Daughter. First!Dru calls Spike Daddy, I don't recall if normal Dru did too, but she clearly didn't see herself in a making role with Spike so why should he view her the same way?

Angelus kind of "adopted" Spike from Dru, as she was unable to act as a sire for him. Drusilla may have turned him, but no one really viewed her as Spike's acting sire. zach61092 It's Darla-Angelous-Dru-Spike right? Yep. Also, The Master from season 1 of Buffy made Darla. 3nodding

Yeah, I remember the first time I saw that episode I was uber-confused about it. They should have made their actual definition of sire more clear.

Yeah. It means that Angel is the one that raised/mentored him. Hence the Yoda comment. biggrin
I wonder who sired the Master?

Shadow__dancer Yeah. It means that Angel is the one that raised/mentored him. Hence the Yoda comment. biggrin I wonder who sired the Master? As far as I'm aware, that's never been cannonly discussed, but he's been around for... (well, more accurately he was around for) quite some time, as evident by the fact that his face was deformed and he was becoming more demonic in appearance than human. He was even that way when he sired Darla about 400 years prior to the series start, so one can assume that he was at least 1,000 or about there. But who knows. It's one of those tidbits that Joss probably never saw fit to delve into.
