A suspenseful story about a teenager named Light who finds a Death Note: A book when a name is written inside, kills that person.

I personally found this show to be one of the best anime shows I had ever seen. There was everything that could be offered in an anime (aside from *cough* fan service in most situations). There's suspense, humour, slight romance, mystery, action, character development, and yes- even a car-chasing scene.
I haven't read the entire manga, so I can't judge how well it follows the original story line, but I don't really think it matters all that much.

I enjoyed all the characters, regardless of their insanity level and moral thoughts. The entire show was a great watch and I would recommend it to anyone.

I watched the first DVD of the live action version. It intrigued me. Perhaps I'll check out the anime.

Oh! The live action movies are fantastic, (I even got one of my teachers hooked on it-- and he isn't a fan of anime at all). The anime has a lot more to it. Like, there are characters that you don't even get to meet, and yeah. It just seems more full.

Live action was pretty awesome, although I think they could have gotten someone that looked more like Raito to play the lead. I'll move up Death Note on my to watch list. xd

I reccomend it. In fact, I'm watching the second movie right now.
Although the movies don't follow the anime or the manga 100%, they're well assembled, and I think they chose the perfect actor for L and for Light's father.

There's also a movie coming out that's specifically about L and I suppose it's going to be about the various cases he performed in order to obtain his renowned status as the world's greatest detective, or something along those lines.

I thoroughly enjoyed all of the Death Note anime (for some reason, it sort of made me think of 24...how you saw what was going on with different characters at different times, and how things were slowly pieced together.

I could only get through the first part of the Death Note live action movie, because it bored me, and I didn't really enjoy the manga either, but I'm a huge Death Note fan overall.

I like the fact that this is one of the few animes out there where the main character is actually the villian.

I know! And that's what made it so darn fun!! xd To see the main character go evilly insane, while STILL being utterly brilliant...I love it!!

Yep
There's Death Note, and then Death Note: The Last Name...
And I think WBJapan is working on a movie about L. Though I think that's still in production.

Death note is my favorite anime at present. Mainly because there all of the real fighting is mental. To plan so many steps ahead of the opponent, who is also planning steps at the same pace. I also like how the main character was actually the villain for once. crying They killed L, though... How.. Dare.. They... He was my favorite. crying

Now heres a question... How does L not get cavities with all his sweets! I mean really?!?! eek
