Lihasu Village

The Lihasu tribe have one village, though they actually inhabit two islands. The majority of this very large tribe – the largest of all the tribes in Belinda – live on the island of Ath’nyo. Their village is quite large, as it must be in order to sustain their population. The village is located deep in the island’s interior jungle. This is to keep out any unwelcome guests. And frankly, most guests are unwelcome. They are a peculiarly hostile group who are trying their hardest to cling to the old ways. They dislike the tourists, though they’re not shy about using the benefits that these tourists bring. Mostly, they leave contact with other cultures up to their children. Because the Lihasu also inhabit the island of Ath’lor, though there is no official village there. When their children are on the verge of adulthood, the Lihasu will send them to the nearby, smaller island in order to learn the ways of the tribe properly without any help. This smaller group is also the group that deals with outsiders. They have a shaky relationship with the other tribes but are too large a force to be overtaken. The village is built in a random pattern, depending on what the resident witchdoctor dictates that the signs say. Women are second-class citizens, believed to be the weaker and less valuable sex. They are never allowed outside the realm of their domestic chores. And any independent girl children are dealt with at an early age. In fact, women are not allowed to handle any kind of weapon that is used by the men for hunting because it is thought to bring bad luck.
