I was discussing with some one why I see a subjective matter a certain way. I'm not the kind of person who just picks up an opinion and refuses to see it any other way, I don't have an opinion on anything unless I've thought it out.
At one point, this person asked me why I saw it the way I did, and I said "Even if I didn't have a reason, I wouldn't need one, it's a subjective matter."
They said "Well, this isn't a discussion then."
Why? Because I'm not going to let you force your views on me? Being my own person does not mean we are not having a discussion. At most, it would mean we are not having a debate, because I was not forcing the way I see it on him. He, however, seemed to think that because my opinion wasn't going to change because of his argument meant that I was an unreasonable jackass.

I agree with that completely.
Some people seem to think that having a discussion means that people HAVE to disagree, and force you to think otherwise.
Whoever you were talking to sounds like a huge jerk.

Got to love it when people try to convert others..
But seriously, show the guy the definition of discussion. You may even want to read it for him since some of these people can't seem to read a dictionary.

When I was in high school I had a friend who was a complete and utter stubborn, close minded Southern Baptist. He couldn't accept anything that wasn't Southern Baptist- even other Christian religions. He would not allow it. Personally I hate close minded people. I have met several people as such. I mean there is one thing to accept that others have other views, and then stick to your own and possibly try to get you to see something a different way. But there is a fine line between arguing and discussion to just plain on converting people.

I'm kind of like you. I have the "agree to disagree" approach in most conversations, where I'll talk to you about anything but you're probably not going to change my opinion.
At the same time, just because it's my opinion doesn't mean it's right, I'm not that arrogant. Given my experiences and point of view it's what works best for me, and the same as the other person. A lot of the time I don't even debate with people. I like to listen and add what I've learned from that conversation to my own pool of knowledge.

i think there is no real discussion if you all see things the same way.
you have to question certain things.
having the same views when you're discussing something doesn't have any effect on the progress of a conversation.
i make my opinions according to what i know about the subject being discussed.
if i don't know anything about it,
i'll wait & think about it.
i hate people who stop a conversation because you don't see things the same way they do.
it's like they're too scared to discuss something & hear a different point of view.

A good discussion, IMO, is marked by many views and sides of a debate.
Unfortunately, I know many stubborn people who refuse to see it that way and will maintain that they are right, no matter what and there is no argument, which takes all the fun out of it.
I personally love in depth discussions and debates with people who may have completely opposite views than me.
