Well, considering that you're starving yourself, I guess it gets one closer to the light at the end of the tunnel or something. xd ; Starvation = Death = God?

That's the only thing I can really think of. I mean, someone starving could learn how "blessed" they are to have food.

Really, I don't think a famine brings one closer to God. For one, I don't believe in the Christian religion. Second, it would be like saying that prostitution or something will bring you closer to God. Just because some people have a certain life style that we deem horrible doesn't mean that if we practice it, will bring us closer to whatever Deity.

I don't think anorexia has much to deal with god.

Recently reading the book Into the wild, and it discussed on some people who were brought back from the verge of death due to starvation described that you got a euphoric feeling towards the end. As such if there is such a good hearted feeling it could cause you to feel enlightened. Enlightened, and good feeling could equal get closer to god.

Personally not a path I would follow, nor encourage. But hey- there are those nuts out there.

Spinal Chord
I don't think anorexia has much to deal with god.

What's anorexia got to do with Famine? Famine is when there is no food in the land for a period of time.

Anyways...
I think Famine would bring you closer to God because you would pray, right? Abraham prayed for a son, which was what he wanted, so you would pray for food.

Then wouldn't be like anorexia? Cause starving your self, is like along the lines of killing your self.

Didn't Mother Theresa say somehting like that?

"We see Christ in the broken body, and we touch him and that touch comes from that deep faith that Christ cannot deceive," basically saying that you need to suffer to become close to Jesus... o_0

Maybe famine does bring people closer to God. Or a deity of choice. Since famine is non-voluntary, does "not having food" cause people to wish for food (and life)? Probably. And it follows that some will pray for salvation. Not all, of course... But I suppose a famine could produce a lot of new religious people. And for them, perhaps famine has brought them closer to God.

However, if we're talking about fasting, then that is a voluntary act, whether religious or otherwise. Like the suffragettes who fasted in prison to promote independence for women. Whether that brings you closer to God, I have no idea! rolleyes
