This is my first HP fanfic so its kinda rushed! Gomen
Snape sighed as he entered the dark room in the Riddle Manor where his master rested himself on a chair preparing for tonight’s activities; Tom Riddle was to rid himself permanently of the Potter menace and he was going to be the complete power of the muggle and wizarding worlds. Snape looked at the rest of his fellow death eaters, the rest were restless especially the ex-marauder Wormtail, Peter Pettigrew, his once bitter enemy in school was now one of his fellow Death Eaters. Snape approached the dark lord and casted his gaze upon the ground before which the throne with him rested, “Milord I have one request,” Snape began, his dark eyes casting themselves on the ground and his hair falling into his face over his brow and almost hiding his nose. “Please, do what you want with the boy and his father, but leave alive Lily Ev… Potter alive.”
The dark lord laughed a little and rose from his seat and approached Snape who remained bowed and almost to the floor. A few of the fellow Death Eaters whispered and murmured amongst themselves and stared at Snape in shock of his request, and then some in fear since they figured the dark lord would destroy the poor man before him, but Voldemort merely knelt down and genteelly placed a pale hand on Snape’s chin and studied the other man with almost sickly kind eyes and a smile appeared on his face. Snape sat there still as a statue staring into the eyes of his dark lord with bewilderment and fear expecting a horrible curse or perhaps death, his eyes frantically moved and then he looked at the bare wrist of his lord, “I’ll leave the girl alive Severus, but if she gets in the way I’ll have no other choice,” he whispered and released Snape’s face and walked past the still kneeling man and headed towards the door summoning a few of his cohorts to follow him to carry out his will of destroying the Potters once and for all.
“Severus, what were you thinking?!” nearly shouted an outraged Lucius Malfoy who knelt down and helped the stunned death eater up and held him by his shoulders at arm length, his blue eyes stared deeply into his friend’s dark and blank eyes, he knew Snape was still madly in love with Lily and he is trying to spare her life, but at the risk of his own? “You could’ve just been killed! What were you thinking? There are other women out there, I’m sure you could—“
“Lucius, please shut up,” Snape barked at his friend ripping out of his grip and he headed towards the door and glared at his friend, his dark eyes nearly turning into slits and he turned on his heel and walked out the door. Snape thought it would be best to follow his master to the Potter household since he wanted to make sure the dark lord kept his promise and left Lily alive, the dark mark burned in his flesh and he glanced to his left arm in anger and continued to watch his lord as he broke into the household and killed James on the spot. He winced when he heard Lily scream and shout for James and for Voldemort to leave her baby alone, Snape stood there and listened to the commotion and then heard Lily’s final yell, he clenched his fists as the yell was cut short and only a baby’s cry was left to be heard. Snape apparated to the Hogwarts grounds and just his luck it had started raining, he ran through the halls of his childhood like a bat out of hell and approached the gargoyle which opened, obviously the head master knew he was coming.
“Ah, Severus, how can I help you this wonderful night?” asked Dumbledore as he sat at his desk with a cheery smile on his face. Snape stood there, drenched and his death eater robe still clung to him and his hair was flat to his head, he was obviously out of breath and he seemed even paler than what he normally was, then Dumbledore’s cheery expression went grave when he was sure he knew what had occurred. “The prophecy?”
“He who must not be named… He’s killed the Potters,” Snape said his voice seemed raw as he spoke, his fists clenched and his shoulders slumped. His head was drooped and he looked at the floor sadly, his dark eyes then clenched themselves shut and his hands finally opened and his wand fell out of his hand. Dumbledore approached the distraught man and placed his hand genteelly on Snape’s shoulder and attempted to calm him down, but he knew it would be in vain since Snape was obviously beating himself up for it. “I want to leave the Death Eaters… I don’t want this damnable mark anymore!”
“It is too late to get rid of the mark Severus,” Dumbledore said in a grave voice as he looked at the frantic man and then patted his shoulder and walked away a little and looked at a picture of a previous head master and began to talk to the portrait. “But… I’m sure we can have you pardoned by the ministry and maybe you can stay here?”
“Head master?” asked Snape moving his gaze from the stone floor up to the man he had known since he was a mere child and whom he still clung some hope to. Dumbledore smiled and patted Severus’s head like as if Snape were still a child who had done something bad and was saying he was sorry for it. Snape looked at the other man and saw that twinkle in Dumbledore’s eyes which revealed he had a plan.
It had been one year since that horrible night occurred, the ministry agreed to pardon Severus Snape for his association with the dark lord, but only if he remained to work under the service of Dumbledore and Hogwarts until the end of his days. Snape agreed to these terms and worked along side the current head of Slytherin Horace Slughorn, as a potions assistant during classes. Snape got his own quarters and spent most of his time in there as he studied a book with a sigh, he though of Lily and a somber wave of memories washed over him and he closed the book. He then got an idea, maybe no magic could bring those back from the death, but maybe a potion could? He went to Daigon alley the fallowing Christmas break and went looking for a doll, a beautiful red headed doll with green eyes and fair skin. Of course Severus found what he was looking for and bought the doll with high hopes, when he returned to his quarters that night he automatically began to whip up a potion to bring the life sized red head doll to life, then eh decided he would give her Lily’s attitude and memory of her, he looked at the cauldron in anticipation that soon his secret love would be back with him.
The doll lay lifeless on his bed, unmoving and her green eyes stared at Snape in an eerie dead way that Snape was all too familiar with. He finished the drought and brought the doll over to him and used a spell to make the doll able to move on its own accord, although it hardly moved, the mouth opened as Snape convinced it to drink the potion he had brought for it. As commanded it swallowed the drought and it fell dead to the ground, or so he thought it was until it stood up, the porcelain had become flesh or what felt like flesh and the doll looked at Snape with cool green eyes and a smile flashed on its face, “Hello Severus,” she said as she stood up, her body then embraced Snape’s and he wrapped his heavily cloaked arms around the naked doll. It looked up at him and placed its soft hand on his face, although there was something odd, she was as cold as death. Well this potion hadn’t completely brought her back to life, but it was close enough he thought. “Where is James?”
A few weeks passed since eh brought that doll to life in the form of Lily Evans, sadly as it appeared she wasn’t able to stay alive to much longer, the potion was wearing off and she was becoming more fatigued and sickly, Snape wouldn’t leave her side at one point since he worried for her health, “Am I dieing?” she asked him finally as she lay on her bed, Snape stood on the other side of the room brewing a replacement formula. He looked to her and shook his head as he let the potion simmer as he was preparing it to be drunk by her once more so she would not return to that lifeless doll he had previously bought from that toy store in Hogsmede. Lily smiled sweetly as he finished the potion and brought it to her and once more she drunk it, her porcelain coat once again fleshy and color returned to her body as she finished the potion off she smiled at Snape and her green eyes flashed before him and then she stood up. “You are so kind to me… I wonder if James would’ve done the same. Where is he?”
Snape seemed a little cheerier than what he had previously been doing his work and practicing new potions and fixing a few for Lily to help her sustain life. Sadly he could not allow her to wander the corridors of Hogwarts since no one knew of his twisted experiment/love he kept locked away in his quarters, a couple of times he would find her trying to return to the Gryffindor common room but he had to try and explain to her things had changed and she needed to remain with him, how she had not been caught was beyond him but he would keep her safe from them.
A few years had passed and Severus noted changes in his body but Lily had not changed one bit, this in a way made him sad. Lily still looked like that doll he had bought from that store when his happy a** decided to do this project and now it was taking its toll on him. As he feared as well Lily began to notice a few of the new age lines that seemed to appear on Snape’s face and she noted she still looked young, “Snape, what’s going on?” she demanded that he explain it to her and why James had not been found. “Why am I no longer aging?”
Slowly Snape began to feel indifferent to Lily and even came to avoid his living doll but he kept feeding her the potions to retain her life, but slowly he began to find himself not wanting to give her anymore but her cries of agony kept him doing it when the time came. Finally Lily had enough of not being able to change and Snape always treating her like a doll, she in a rage cut all her red hair off till it was merely chin length and smiled at the new change, then she looked around and tore the fancy dress off of herself and wore what was Snape’s old school uniform, she smiled and waited for Snape to return from his work.
By this time Snape was now not only the head of Slytherin but he also was called the potions master, he took his work very seriously and no longer paid any mind to Lily when she would scream and fight with him about simple things. One thing he hadn’t expected was to come back to his room and to see the long curly red locks on the ground near a mutilated ball gown, worried someone had done something to her he ran to find her sitting on the bed smiling at him as he entered, shocked at what he saw he ran over to her and held her by the shoulders, “What is this? What did you do?” he asked frantically.
“Don’t you like it?” she asked smiling at him. “You’ve been changing so I decided to change too.”
Snape let go of her and went back to his side of the quarters and locked his door, he was angry with her since she seemed to have changed too much. This wasn’t the Lily he remembered… She would never desecrate her self image for anyone… Nor would she just ask Snape if she pleased him. What was this thing he had created? He stared at the door and he heard Lily sobbing, was she sad? He walked over to his door and opened it to see Lily sitting on the floor crying, her arm was cracked open and yet no blood would come from it, “What am I?”
Snape tried to comfort her but to no avail she fell into a sort of depression and stopped talking to Snape for a while. Soon enough it began to take its toll on Snape as well as it drove him away from his quarters, but he knew he would have to return to them. One day while he was out Lily found his diary and began to read it, his green eyes scanned the pages till she came across the pages that talked about her pregnancy and then to her horror her death! She threw the book down and looked at herself in the mirror, her hair had not begun to grown out any, her arm was still cracked and the crack and worked its way up her arm and was now on her shoulder. She then picked up the book and read about James being dead as well as herself and then her baby, she was a mother? But James was dead, a wave of dread washed over her and she hurried out of Snape’s quarters and went to the astronomy tower.
Snape returned to his quarters that night to find it empty and his diary dumped on the floor, at first he was merely worried about Lily being gone but then an even more sickly feeling came over him, had she read his diary? He began to frantically search the corridors for Lily till he gave up, she was no where in the dungeons, then he decided to look other places around Hogwarts till he ran out into the courtyard, he looked around there about to give up when he saw a figure on the astronomy tower! Who was this that was up there that night? Was it a student? Dear Merlin what if they fell? He quickly stopped his search for Lily and ran as fast as he could to the astronomy tower. The tower seemed to gloomy when there was no one there, finally arriving to the class room he noted the window was open and he climbed out onto the ledge, then he heard crying. It was Lily’s of all people’s, his heart leapt when he saw her holding onto the side of the tower and clinging to the tower for dear life.
“Lily Evans, what are you doing out here?” called Snape as he tried to climb out to get her before he heard her tell him to get away. “What is wrong with you?!” “Severus, what am I?” she cried holding onto the roof, her cracked arm was now missing a finger and no blood came from the open wound, it must’ve been close to time for him to give her a potion. “I’m a mother! I’m no longer Evans I’m a Potter! And… and I am dead?!”
“Lily I—“
“And you’re a death eater?! How… How could you do this to me?! And all this time… I was modified to your liking? I’m not even real any more! I’m a doll!” She cried holding onto the tower, no tears were even running down her cheeks but she appeared to be crying. “I… I can’t even cry!”
“You’re real to me,” said Snape softly to the hysterical woman who clung to the tower for dear life. “Please come down, Lily, please.”
“If I am real… Then if I die maybe I can see James again, maybe, Severus I loved him,” she said in an almost whisper, just then she released herself from the tower and plummeted down towards the ground below them, Snape reached for his want to cast a floating spell on her but to his horror realized he left it in his room, then there was a breaking sound. Snape ran down the stairs of the Astronomy tower as fast as he could till he exited the building and saw to his horror the doll was now in pieces. Her arms and legs were shattered and her body was also broken beyond repair, her face was cracking and one of the cracks met her mouth, drear god the cracks looked like blood. Snape knelt down next to Lilly and lifted whatever was left of the doll up in his arms, but she was still alive for now, but she wouldn’t be for long, soon she would be back to that lifeless doll he had bought… Only broken.
“I’m sorry,” was all he could say.
THE END
