Okay, I noticed something very strange. Here goes:
Angelus was born and made in Ireland, right? So where did his accent go? I mean, Spike has his English Accent and even Dru has hers. They have been dead a long time right, but they still have theirs. Where did Angel's accent go?
It was a stray question that I thought I would share. Can anyone tell me why?

I cannot tell you why...but sometimes in "angel" when he has flashbacks he does have an accent. i think in season 5 of buffy when there was a crossover episode ( the one where spike remembers stuff, they showed a "continuation" of that in angel) angel had an accent.... i think.... but yeah the accent just goes away and comes back randomly, it could be due to david boreneaz's acting skills...maybe not...dunno...dont think so.

They probably just didn't want him with an accent, since they already had Spike to fill that department.. who knows o_O

Well...Angel has been around for what? 200+ years? Accents tend to fade. Like my dad's girlfriend, she's from Germany and has only been in the States for 16 years and she has no accent at all. I guess it depends on the person. Plus...I think Angel lost his Irish accent because it was too much like Angelus, which is a part of Angel's life he hates. 3nodding

There were some episodes with an accent, but I think it was just DB's acting skills. I like him as Angel, but he can't pull off the accent like Spike can. It's just honest truth.

Yea, but those episodes are mostly flashbacks when he was Angelus. I've never heard Angel speak with an Irish tongue. But yes, Spike's accent was prefect. 3nodding

In one of the Angel episodes when they are trying to get Cordelia's memories back and they all lose their own...everyone notices that "Liam" has no accent even though he says he is from Ireland...it is my guess that Angel just lost it over time...otherwise he should have been able to talk with the accent when he forgot Angelus

I think it just changed with time. Spike's accent is a concious effort, though he's probably not aware of it now, he faked it; He never had a real cockney accent because he was born into a wealthier class. Maybe he decided to change to renounce the world he belonged to, or maybe to impress Dru.

Well, when the show began, I think there was less "angel history" in it. He didn't have an accent when the show began, so why give it to him when they developed the irish background?

Well right near the beginning he does have a pretty crap one but in the apst things it's even worse. David Boreanaz is pretty bad at accents smile

Accents vary from person to person. Even in real life there are people who are irish or english and lose their accents and there are some irish and british people who don't. Don't know why that is but I have wondered about the whole Angel loosing his accent situation.
