Hello and welcome to the second Guild newsletter. I figured a fair bit's been going on lately, so it was time for... another newsletter!

Here's what's been going on in the Guild:

New members arrive in their thousands! Well, not quite, but still...
We've had plenty of new members, due to the combined efforts of current members advertising, several people putting the guild banner in their signatures, and my talent-scouting of the Writing Competitions Forum. I'm hoping we can get a few more people hosting and entering competitions. Anyway, thank you to everyone who's helped raise up the member count, and welcome to all you new members. Have a great time!

Guild Mascot by Zenai_Metos, work in progress
Zenai, Head of Banners, has been busy working on our Guild Mascot. I don't have the code so I can't show you here, but his idea is a pen and a pencil fighting each other, which you can see at his "Banners" forum in the main area of the Guild. He's working on it at the moment, I'll let you all know when it's ready. He's also made a huge donation to me so that I could set up a General forum (most of you knew that already, but I thought some sort of public recognition was in order, and not everybody's read the updated version of the previous newsletter.

Skitrel makes a suggestion to improve Guild publicity
Skitrel suggested that in order to widen Guild publicity we advertise in the main Writing Competition Forum. I've expanded that idea, so now there's been an alteration to the Contest Hosting rules. It's going to be put up on the rules page as well, but here's how it is: from now on, post a copy of the contest here, as the "official" copy, but also a copy in the main Writing Competitions Forum with a link saying that to enter you have to come to the "official" copy here. Thanks to Skitrel for the idea.

Competitions being run at the moment

Annetia's Weekly Paragraph Competition (prose)
I give you a sentence, you write the rest of the paragraph. No fee, 1000 gold first prize, 500 gold second prize, also honorable mentions.

Annetia's one-word prompts competition (prose)
I give you one word as a prompt, you produce a peice of writing based on that prompt. 100 gold entry fee, 1200 gold first prize, 600 gold second prize. Not generating much interest, advertise, people! Please enter!

Zenai_Metos's mascot suggestions
Zenai, supplier of all my wonderful banners, is taking suggestions for a Guild mascot, as well as giving out the codes for our banners and taking suggestions for others. (I'm starting to think of him as Head of Banners at the Guild).

Marael's poetry contest
You are supplied with some pictures, you must write a poem about that picture. 50 gold entry fee, 800 gold first prize, 500 gold second prize, 200 gold third prize, 50 gold for an honorable mention.

Outlined in Ink (poetry)
You must write a poem between 12 and 30 lines, wich must include the word broken. 1000 gold first prize, 500 gold second prize, no entry fee.

Sylvesterine's love poetry contest (poetry, not up yet)
I've just given Sylvesterine the go-ahead for a competition about a love poem. It's not up yet, I'll edit this entry when it is.

That's about it for now, have a good time and remember to PM me if you have any announcements to put in the next newsletter, or any suggestions on how to improve the Guild.

I just wanted to add that I'm willing to make personal banners for contests being held in the guild. They only cost 20g. Check out the Banners thread for more info!

Also, would I be able to get you to sticky the Banners thread, Annetia?

Alright, I'll do that.

I think that there should be a place for... well, not competitive writing. One cannot fine tune their writing skills on contests alone, but criticism is also needed. General writing sub-forum anyone?

You should set up a suggestions thread, Annetia!

As for your suggestion, Nid, If we don't have enough funds right away to make a subforum and you have something you'd liked critiqued, I'm sure you could make a thread in the General section. I'm sure people wouldn't mind looking it over and helping you out!

Actually, at the moment we can afford two new sub-forums. I'm thinking a general writing (ie, non-competitive) forum where you can showcase your work or have it critiqued.

I'm also going to set up a suggestions thread in the General forum.

I'm also going to put up a summary of each of the sub-forums in the Rules.

No, I was wondering where he went to...

I'll see about your contest.
