It was at 2300 hours when my shift began. I had put on my green coat, my silver finger tipped black leather gloves, my steel toed boots, the silver cleats, and my hair in a pony tail.
This was All Hallows' Eve. A day when the most demons come out knowing that they'd barely be noticed by the public while walking around with all the trick-or-treating kids.
One by one the demons would eat these kids for their virgin blood so they could gain their strength. And soon enough the missing children's' reports would start raining in.
I wasn't about to let that happen.
As my job of an Oni Ryoushi, I must protect the innocent by either killing or purifying the demons. If I killed them... needless to say, they were dead. But if I purified them, they would be back in their human form. But I always preferred the killing of the demons. Because a purified one can still pass down the traits of what he once was to his kith and kin.
So I got outside of my house not worrying about the vampyre ally of mine because he was wearing his silver today.
Silver is usually mistaken to be a weakness to demons, but if people could remember things correctly, all silver does is put the demon in his human form.
So Darkness, the vampyre, had his silver locket around his neck.
This was a small group of ryoushis. Shane, Darkness, Kevin, and Shippo. Our goal was to kill at least 10 demons tonight. And we only had 1 hour to do it. So we had to be quick.
Kevin had headed toward the local high school as that's where all the older teens like to hang out during All Hallows' Eve. Shippo disappeared into the dark surroundings of a nearby forest. Darkness had begun searching through all kinds of darker-teen hangout points such as rave clubs. And I, Shane, had no choice but to wander around the neighborhoods making sure the kid were alright.
While I wandered around I ran into a couple of ryoushis not of my group, but still gave them the friendly gesture of the finger-gun to the finger-head of a wolf and they had done the same.
I thought tonight was going to be an easy night.
Everything went well until my cellphone started vibrating. I checked to see who it was and noticed that it was Kevin.
Kevin was under attack and needed back-up. Which is a nicer way of saying he was about to get gang-banged by a couple of demons since he really can't fight on his own too well anyway.
I rushed over to the signal the phone gave me and when I arrived at the location I saw just his phone on the ground. Kevin was nowhere in sight.
I picked up his phone and started on my was of the opposite direction from where its antenna was pointing.
It was useless. I say some leaves that were parting in a path until they were all spread out in a huge circle at the end. It must have been a vandal.
Vandals have the look of a super-buff vampire with moose like horns, but the strength of ten werewolves. It doesn't help that of the fact that they can teleport. Which would lead to the scatter of leaves in the huge circle.
I growled and shouted Kevin's name a few times and dashed for a local pay phone. My cell was low on minutes so I couldn't call anyone. I had to use pay phones. I popped in two quarters and dialed Shippo's number. It took him four rings before he would pick up.
"Yo? Shane?"
"Yeah! Kevin's been nabbed!"
