I knew I was always a clutz, but I never knew it was this urgent. "The mark of the beast.." Those words just kept spinning in my head. Earlier this morning, I went outside, as usual, and the guards looked rather, petrified. "Melanie. We have to tell you something..we should've told your parents. You see the mark on your neck?" I nodded and touched it. My parents told me it was just a birth mark.
"It's the.." They stuttered. "mark of The Beast.." I just stood there, dumbfounded, trying to take it all in. I've been told of The Beast and its terrible doings. "How? My parents, the King and Queen, the-they were there when I was born right?" I felt like exploding in tears, and I knew what they were going to say. "No...we're sorry.." The knights hung their heads in shame and I ran back inside holding in the tears.
"They..lied to me..." I ran and ran through the corridors of the castle straight to my room. I slammed the door shut and layed down on my bed. Tears came pouring out my eyes and I closed them tight. "The Beast...it was said that it could do miracles, but for a price..what happened if I wasn't born in the castle?"
Soon, before I even knew it, it was supper time. I woke up lazily to the insesent knocking on my door. "Princess Melanie! The King and Queen wishes you to join them for supper!" I rubbed my eyes and looked out my window. "Tell them it won't take a moment!" I quickly said. I put on my evening gown and hurriedly opened the door.
Unfortunately, the day got even worse. I ran straight into the maid outside my door, and we both tripped and fell. "My apologies miss!" She seemed hurried and troubled. "No! No! It's all mine!" I helped her gather her things and I ran off down many flights of stairs. Suddenly, something stopped me. Shivers went down my spine.
"They fear uss..." I looked around, perified. "Is-is someone there?" My feet wouldn't move. "Lies...lies have spun all around us..we hold great power..." I felt like all happiness was drained out of me. The mark burned my neck and I shrieked. Suddenly I felt a push and I snapped out of it. The mark stopped burning, and I saw myself back at the stairs.
I looked behind me and saw a boy. He looked at me with an unmoving gaze. I blinked, and he was gone. "This day has gotten even weirder." I shook my head and ran downstairs, to the glaring gaze of my father. "You're late." I took my seat shyly and whispered, with a slight bitterness to my voice. "Sorry."
