Research Entry 3 The Search for the Stabilizing Solution
*Two pages of the journal are completely blank, completely devoid of words or even ink blots. This journal entry is under the protection of the Fidelius Charm, and only those people to whom Mr. Patronus and/or Mr. Alexander give the secret formula may view the following pages.*
((out of character note: it helps if you highlight the following text. ))
After many days and many experiments, Mr. Alexander has concocted a potion that controls the form of a Patronus. Only he and I know the formula at the moment; we know that we must guard the secret to this Stabilizing Solution with the utmost care and caution. If this recipe were to fall into the wrong hands, our enemies would be able to conjure the Patronuses of our friends and thereby go into disguise undetected. I do not think I will even tell Miss Sylver what the potion contains; I will only give her the proper dosage.
Here is the recipe, as Mr. Alexander gave me. The second is for changing the color of a Patronus:
Patronus Stabilizer (very similar to Polyjuice Potions, but with a few differences)
ingredients: 8 lacewing flies stewed 42 days 3 leeches 1 powdered bicorn horn 1 clump knotgrass 1 fluxweed picked at full moon 1 shredded boomslang skin a bit of the creature you want your Patronus to take the shape of 2 drops of Leviathan's blood 1 strand of a happy memory mixed 7 times clockwise and twice counterclockwise
Mix all the ingredients in the order listed above and in the exact quantities.
Color changing Patronus Stabilizer (for aid in copying a person's Patronus)
As for the color/stripe/spot changing Patronus solution, it is very similar. Instead of the Leviathan's blood and the strand of memory, a small phial of Acromantula venom must be added.
~Note: The phial must be filled to 12mL exactly and chilled at a temperature of 15 degrees celsius for 1 hour immediately after brewing the ingredients together. I dare not experiment with anymore Acromantula venom unless a bezoar is present. I honestly think it isn't worth trying.
Color changes and stripes or spots vary depending on one's mood at the time. Happy moods bring very vibrant colors and spots and stripes(on occasion). Moderate moods yield average colors and occasional stripes as well but with much more frequency than a happy mood (which I thought was strange). Unhappy moods, if the Patronus can even be conjured at all, yield very dull colors and the Patronus usually only lasts a very short time.
Once the Patronus is conjured in the transformed state one is in thanks to the Polyjuice Potion aspect, One merely needs to think about which colors and spots or stripes go where on the Patronus animal conjured. Upon thinking of it, the Acromantula venom seems to react enough at that time to cause the changes in the Patronus.
Additional Notes
Finally, with the first potion, after taking it, it can help people who have difficulty in conjuring a Patronus. It can also help a person's Patronus last just a bit longer. Also, the lacewing flies, must be stewed 41 days rather than 21 days since one is dealing with animals rather than humans when brewing this Polyjuice potion variant. The second potion mentioned does not use a bit of an animal either, but like Polyjuice potion, you need a bit of the person you are transforming into.
