Beginning of Story:
Prince Sirborus woke up in a daze. He had just had a dream that he was engaged in a battle with the Demon Princess and lost. He walked over to the window and looked out over the village. The werewolves walked to their destinations without a worry. They did not realize that soon they would all be destroyed; melted in a hole of boiling fire as the Demon Princess rises to claim Earth as her own kingdom...
Sirborus swung his mallet with great force as the fire tried to engulf, incinerate, and demolish it. The Princess was swift but Sirborus was powerful. For every 5 misses, he hit once, and hard. In between swings he was being bombarded by fireballs, kicks, and punches thrown by the Demon Princess. Sirborus was so tired. The mallet grew heavy. He swung it one last time. He heard laughter as he dropped the mallet and fell to his knees. The laughter grew louder and the ground beneath him slipped away and he fell into a pool of swirling flames and melted rock...within seconds, he was nothing. As Prince Sirborus recollected the dream, rather nightmare, he heard a knock at the door. "Come in", Sirborus said in a disappointed tone. His trusty servant Mahto entered and exclaimed, "Master!! You must get down to the Crowning Hall to knight the warrior Tapdhen for his bravery during the battle with the demons!" "Oh, yes", Sirborus said keeping the same tone. He continued to look out of the window. "If it weren't for brave soldiers like Tapdhen, our village will be overrun ever so swiftly." He looked at the floor beneath him. Sensing his master's distress, Mahto replied, "Master, I am sure if we did not have brave soldiers we would not parish easily. You are more than capable of annihilating demons." Sirborus looked at Mahto knowing his intent and said, "Yes, Mahto. I am sure I can take on demons alone." Mahto replied swiftly, "But your sister would surely help you, Master." Sirborus formed a new look in his eye now. "No!” he said loud but non-ominous, "My sister shall never fight at my side", his voice normalized. Sirborus looked down and had begun to walk toward Mahto. "My death is completely bearable, I am not afraid of being slain. But Oyate...” he took a deep breath as he stopped walking for a moment, "I will surely destroy any existence on Earth if she is...” Sirborus refused to finish his statement; Mahto knew what he was going to say.
Prince Sirborus and Mahto walked down the hall, down the spiral steps, and through the gigantic double doors into the Crowning Hall. The Crowning Hall was not only used for knighting. The month before, for example, Sirborus had thrown a village party in the Crowning Hall. The whole village was invited to attend the masquerade. The month before that, he congregated the villagers for a Costume Contest. The prince would have pointless gatherings like this so that everyone in the village could get to know one other; it encouraged friendship and peace. He liked his village to be happy, prosperous, and carefree; he hated for village to be threatened.
There was an army under the prince's control. Anyone could join the army. Sirborus used his army as a place where young Lykens could gain self-esteem while learning techniques that would never come in handy in a battle. --Sirborus did not want the villagers to know how to fight; he was confident that he and his GI's would be able to protect them if needed. There was no need to place a boundary, like a wall, around the village. The Earth creatures were at peace now; werewolves and vampires became best friends 4 years ago when Tahtay, Prince of the Vampires, came into power as king. Their fathers had been engaged in a lifelong battle for supremacy. During the last battle, Caput, Sirborus' father, and Ilevakam, Tahtay's father, decided to combat one another.
The fight was intense and seemed to last hours. Caput had mortally wounded Ilevakam. As his life flowed from his chest, Ilevakam bit into Caput's neck. The brave vampire then fell over; he was deceased before his body touched the earth. Caput stood there, paralyzed, as the vampire venom coursed rapidly through his body. He fell to his knees, unable to pronounce a word. Mahto was present but there was nothing he could do. Mahto watched as Caput stopped breathing. His heart liquefied; followed by his lungs and organs; then the rest of his body.
That was 10 years ago. 5 years would pass before Tahtay is ready to take the throne. The next year, Tahtay was crowned King. He kept the title Prince; he had liked the way it sounded. Almost as soon as he was crowned he set up a meeting with Prince Sirborus, who still hasn't taken his father's position, to settle the dispute once and for all. Tahtay was prepared to go either way; he was ready to fight Sirborus to the death as well as compromise. Prince Sirborus immediately extended a helping hand; he too was ready for anything, he extended his hand as an attempt to keep the peace, however. After some time, the princes had come up with a treaty.
After a year, they realized that the treaty was working better than expected. Both sides were growing in numbers and happiness. They walked the earth spreading the news of the covenant between vampires and Lykens. The other creatures decided to join and become allies even after having been at war. Soon there were no enemies...except the Underworld. *** The Underworld, a.k.a., The Demonworld is ruled by a powerful demoness named Isis. She is swift, strong, and possesses pyrokinetic abilities; a most ominous foe. For as long as the earth has existed, the Underworld has existed. The demons could not stand to rule such a small part of Earth. The demons were greedy. Rulers of the demons have plotted to overthrow the surface since the first dynasty was started; they have always failed. They wouldn’t fail, necessarily, because they were weaker than the surface creatures, they were just outnumbered. Anytime the Underworld threatened surface existence, the creatures would suspend all grudges and band together to eliminate the threat. After the demons were defeated, the surface creatures would go back to the way they were. There was no way for the demons to win.
Although she could not have the title “Queen” because she was unmarried, Isis had been in power for 2 years. Her father had the throne previously. He taught her everything he could about the surface creatures. He taught Isis their weaknesses, strengths, and choice of weapons. Before her father died and left her the throne, Isis knew that vampires primarily used swords and daggers; werewolves primarily used their own claws and teeth but were also known to carry great maces and bows and arrows; wizards used magic, nothing else; ninjas used swords, daggers, shurikens, any other item they could handle easily, and sometimes smoke bombs. She knew that vampire venom was extremely detrimental to werewolves; vampires would combust if they were exposed to UV rays or stabbed through the heart; wizards can only hold their breaths for 40 seconds before they implode within themselves; ninjas were not fans of water, they hated it, it slows them down to incredibly low speeds.
Isis had had a dream the same night Sirborus had his nightmare; hers was quite pleasing. An idea of how to destroy the surface creatures had been presented to her. She sat up in her bed and whispered one word, “Betrayal." She hopped up immediately and ran for her map of the surface. She studied the outlines of each village’s boundaries and who controlled the land there. She spoke inaudibly to herself as her eyes scanned the lines and grooves of the printed paper. “The Earth creatures always ban together in order to defeat us…” Isis whispered to no one, “They always turned their backs on their pointless grudges until we were defeated… If a few of these alliances were broken, the surface would crumble… but there needs to be something…big.” As she spoke, her younger sister Alina opened the door and peered in. Isis acknowledged her presence by waving her over. As Alina walked over she stared at the map, wondering why Isis was so interested in it.
“Dear sister,” Isis asked, “how would you like to help me in my quest for power?”
Alina was a smart, agile, beautiful force to be reckoned with; she could be your best friend or your worst enemy. As soon as she was born, the former king knew that she would never be pure evil like Isis. When her fire was lit, she could unleash a wrath that could make the stars themselves quiver and hide in fright; but once the flame died down she was a sweet innocent girl; the key was figuring her out.
“I suppose I can help”, she said in a sorrow filled tone.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing… I want to help. What would you like me to do?” Her voice gradually raised in spirit.
“I need to cause chaos among the surface… Do you have any idea how I can go about doing that?”
Alina looked at the map. Her brain started to race. She thought of the people who lived there, what made them mad, what made them happy, and ways to make them turn against one another. After some time, a look of an epiphany came over her face. She smiled and turned to Isis.
“What?”
“I have an idea.” *** Sirborus walked to his throne next to Mahto. They were silent. Mahto was trying to think of something to say to Prince Sirborus to lift his spirits. Sirborus was thinking of what to do to avoid his village’s destruction.
As they sat down, the sound grew louder; the cheering, shouting, laughing, dancing… the happiness. Sirborus’ eyes scanned the room. Smiles were shot at him. A smile crawl onto his face as he watched the old Lykens and the young Lykens spread joy to one another.
“My friends”, Sirborus bellowed, “You may all be seated as we start the ceremony!”
Tapdhen was knighted, he gave a speech, and the village cheered with pride. Confetti was thrown over everyone; miniature musical instruments were played by the children. As the excitement and music erupted, Sirborus found that he was becoming quite uneasy. He started to walk to his private chambers off the left side of the Crowning Hall. Prince Tahtay was walking at a fast pace to catch up with Sirborus.
“Sirborus!” he called out.
Sirborus turned to him and with a better feeling said, “Hello.”
“I must speak with you expeditiously!”
As Sirborus reached for the doorknob he heard Tahtay’s words, his tone. “What is the matter?” Sirborus asked with a new concern as he walked into his chambers, waited for Tahtay to enter and closed the door.
“I have a terrible feeling… I am worried something horrible will happen.”
Sirborus nodded, “Yes... I understand completely. I, too, feel something… ominous in the air.” Sirborus looked at his desk, walked over to it and sat down. He put his hand out indicating the chair across from the table. Tahtay sat down. They thought really hard. They thought about nothing; they thought about everything; they thought about everything turning into nothing.
Finally Sirborus exclaimed, “It has to have something to do with the Underworld.”
Tahtay tugged at his beard. “It is possible that Isis is plotting something… This is the first time I have felt like this. There have been many attempts on the surface world; why is it that I feel this way only now?”
“I don’t know Tahtay. I have only felt this one other time… I have a feeling I can stop it but… how can you stop what isn’t there yet?” After a few moments of silence there was a soft knock at the door. Sirborus knew who it was. Oyate opened the door slowly and peeked in.
“Sirborus?” Oyate said as soft as she had knocked. “Is everything alright?”
“Yes, Oyate, things are quite fine.” ‘For now’, he thought to himself. “Is there something you need?”
“No… I just don’t like these strange dreams I have been having.”
“O Oyate, dreams are simply dreams; your mind wandering freely.”
Oyate looked at the floor as she took a few steps inside the chambers and closed the door slowly. She glances at Tahtay for a moment then spoke. “It is more than a dream… It seems so real.” She sits down on the window sill and stares out into the sky. A tear begins to fall freely from her eye. Sirborus gets up, walks over to her, puts his arm around her, and says, “It is alright, Oyate, none of that will happen.”
Her teary eyes looked up at him; a certain sorrow overcame her face as he forced himself to smile. Her eyes stared past Sirborus just before she laid her head on his chest and whimpered to herself.
Tahtay stood up and took a few steps to the door before Oyate looked up and said, “Oh, did I interrupt you two? I am sorry.”
“No, no, Oyate, you didn’t interrupt us; we were just going over plans for the North Wing”. Prince Tahtay said quickly but respectfully.
Sirborus looked down at Oyate, “Everything will be alright, Oyate. No harm will come to you or me, okay?”
She nodded slowly, wiped her tears away, and got up to walk out of the chambers. Tahtay took a step to the side and bowed a bit; Oyate smiled and walked out the door, up the steps, and into her room where she closed and locked her door and cried silently on her bed with her head in the pillows.
Tahtay and Sirborus took their seats. There were a few moments of silence before Sirborus said, “I don’t want to shelter her but… if she knew, she would be infuriated.”
Tahtay replied, “There will be a time when she will have to know.”
“There is still a chance that this feeling is nothing.”
“But if it turns out to be something, will you tell her?”
Sirborus hesitated to answer. He looked down at the desk. He stared at a pencil, deep in thought. Sirborus knew that Oyate would fight to the death to protect him; even if he could keep it from her, if he were killed, Oyate would certainly avenge him; even if it meant her death. Losing was not an option for the Prince. There was a knock at the door. Tahtay opened the door and Tapdhen walked in. “Some of the villagers told me you were in here.”
Sirborus stood up. “Is everything alright?”
“Yes, I just wanted to check up on you and Oyate; make sure things are in order.”
Sirborus squinted a bit.
“My sources have informed me that more demons have been invading us. They say the numbers are not extraordinary”, Tapdhen’s voice started to fade slowly, “as a matter of fact, they haven’t been coming in large numbers at all…just…small groups…like they are toying with us.” Tapdhen shook his head as if trying to get rid of a bad thought. “The group I slaughtered was the largest; 40.”
“What do you think this means?”
“I am not sure… I just have this feeling that we need to unify quickly.”
“What? You mean all the societies?”
“No, just the vampires and Lykens.” Tapdhen looked at Prince Tahtay.
Sirborus became confused, “Why just us?”
An epiphany had come over Tahtay and he said, “I understand.” He waved Sirborus to follow him. They said their proper farewells and walked out of the chambers leaving Tapdhen behind. They began walking up the stairs.
Outline for rest of story: At this point Sirborus will gradually come to realize that there is a lot going on that he knew nothing about. He will find out that Tapdhen is in love with Oyate, that the demons are recklessly invading specific parts of the world in small groups only to gather information as they are slaughtered; he will find out that Oyate loves Tahtay, and he will find out that the other creatures inhabiting Earth are beginning to feud again. Sirborus will save the life of a girl only to fall in love with her and further escalate Isis’s plan for the girl he falls in love with is Alina; Isis’s sister. Sirborus will create situations that call for Tahtay to spend more and more time with Oyate causing her to love him as much as he loves her. Oyate begins to think, with Isis’s indirect persuasion, that Tahtay is trying to take her away from her brother Sirborus to create a new breed of creatures that are a hybrid between vampires and werewolves. Oyate ends up killing Tahtay. She confronts him and does not believe him when he tells her that he has no intentions of taking her from Sirborus. She fights him and because he loves her so much he refuses to fight back and is killed. Tahtay finds a way to contact Sirborus through his dreams and tells him of the impending danger. Due to time, Sirborus must create a plan and execute it rather recklessly before Isis’s plan is completed. He only succeeds halfway. In a panic, Sirborus sacrifices himself to destroy Isis and her minions. Oyate is then left all alone with her brother’s mighty mallet. She finds letters written by Sirborus and Tahtay long before their deaths. In the letters Sirborus reveals that he was always afraid to take the position of King because he felt as though he could never fill his father’s shoes. He also reveals that he is afraid of being in charge of too many people because he feels responsible for their lives and the devastation he would feel if one of those lives would be lost would be unbearable. The letters give her the strength to live on. She is left in peace until a new race of creatures appear; humans.
