Straw-head Chapter 1: Sacrificial Rite
Several Miles off the coast of Isle De Gambino, there resides a smaller densely forested island populated by strange people. Well by the Standards of the Mainland Gaians anyway, to the people of Felis Island their catlike Ears, Tails and occasionally Feet and Paws were quite normal, there are a variety of theories behind their existance on Felis Isle, many say they evolved from a neighboring Island's or that they were creatures of Lunaris the Veseti Goddess of the Night and Darkness. Felisians believed neither theories, they had their own set of beliefs, that being they were created by other gods that had existed centuries before the Mainland of Gaia was populated and civilized by the Humans that now wander it.

I myself was born on this Little Island and enjoyed playing on it's beaches and sleeping in its forests, I was Talim'aneko or "Shaded Tail" in your tongue. And at my youngest years were happy, until that awful night. I remember only that I was digging a very deep hole on the beach at night with my hands and feet, when a terrible noise sounded out. It started out as a Rumble, then it became a very deep boom.
"<Huh?>" I said in Felisian. at this point the Boom faded off replaced with a horrid incredibly high pitched ring, I fell over my head (or possibly the world) spinning in the wrong direction and way too fast.

I woke up a few hours later, propped up against a tree with a very large leaf as a blanket, a few feet away was the tribal council's campfire, surrounded by the druids and priests of our beliefs, including my father, a Druid of Tezuka, our creator, he had always seemed very grim and serious but tonight he was acting even more so than usual as he spoke to the other druids.
<"You know VERY well that whatever happened it WASN'T natural. It would be meaningless."> He said to Mako'nin ("Soaked Paws" wink Druid of Miyazaki, watcher of Nature and the world.
"<Hardly, no mortal hands Felasian, Vulpinian even Mainland Human could possibly cause that bizzarre thunderclap. It's a message of the gods Rinro'aneko, it must be done if we are to avoid whatever fate the Humans have likely brought upon themselves.>" Father stared down at Mako'nin, as he started bitterly.
<"That's a very simple thing for you to say Mako..">
<"IT IS NOT!"> Mako'nin roared bitterly. <"Always during the hunts and at the height of the fishing Season, she and the other children were left in my care, I look at each as I would my own children if it weren't Miyazaki's will that I would not have any...">
I didn't quite understand what uncle Mako-as I thought of him-was talking about, but it seemed very serious.
<"..TO THE ABYSSAL VOID WITH MIYAZAKI AND HIS WILL!"> Father shouted, much to the shock of the others.
<"..Rinro..."> Mako'Nin said looking at him.
<"No!"?> I could hear him starting to cry now. <"This is my child, the only child I'll ever have and while I one day may have to lose her it won't be because of a small passage in a scroll and some odd thunderclap from the mainland!">
<"..Rinro you have every reason to be angry and upset, therefore I absolve you of your very strong blasphemy towards the watcher in the sky-">
<"-Stop being so very soft with him Mako'Nin, Rinro'Aneko this is no time for weak sentimentality.> interupted Kuros'rana (Brutal Eyes) Druid of Hirano, God of bloodshed and war. <"We could in the next few days be overrun with Invaders or have this years catch ruined by the bloody waters. I have no love for this ritual, but we must take action if we are to save Felis Island from a very terrible fate. We must think of the Island as a whole rather than a single child.">
<"Then I should be the one leashed to the raft.."> Rinro said. <"Let the watcher of the sky witness my death by drowning or thirst and be satisfied.">
<"That would be far crueler to Talim than anything the ritual could do."> Mako said trying not to cry. <"We can not afford to lose you Druid of Tezuka...and I don't think I could bear to hear Talim lose another parent to the sea.">
Father lowered his head trying not to cry, he turned his back to me so and didn't look at me at all.
<"Very well...">
I recall crying that day as they leashed me to the mast of the Raft so that I wouldn't be able to jump off and swim back to the island, so that I would die out there on the high seas of thirst and that Felis Island would be safe from the would-be wrath of the gods. I didn't understand any of it back then, I just kept on clinging to my father and begging him not to let them do it to me, that I was sorry for whatever I had done wrong. He only stroked my hair and held me close, telling me that no matter what I was a good girl, that everything would be all right and I'd be safe. Like a simpleton I believed him, even though his head was facing downwards and his shoulders were shaking like he was crying, I saw Uncle Mako stand next to him with his hand on his shoulder.
The last words I heard from my father sounded mad, out of place like he had taken complete leave of his senses. He said. <"Her eyes...Just like her mother's..">
And after that I was sent away, into the near endless Sea, blowing around the trade winds in a dance of Monotony, thirst and silence, with only the seabirds and the sound of water to keep me company.
