I'm just starting today. I've been out on this site for about a month now and found it very exciting for a number of reasons. First of all, I thought this was just a kids site, but I'm finding there are a number of adults out here too. Second of all, I'm surprised and the depth of the intellectual processes out here and how much the kids are interested in sharing their opinions. I guess it doesn't help that I'm living in a small town, but I've had a hard time getting the kids to open up and share thought and opinions. The level of thought out here is so exciting I have a hard time stopping when I start to read. I want to document here some of the thoughts I find in threads.
One of the first threads I came across was one on abortion. There was a poll on whether or not abortion was murder. The writer stated he thought it was and I was surprised by the thought that went into the answers he received. One of the responders told him that there could be no discussion if he was going to be closed-minded. Another told him he needed to be more specific with his variables. There were a lot of other questions brought in: when does life begin; does a person have the right to use another person's body; is there a difference between denying someone an organ they need to live and denying a fetus the womb they need to live? All this and I haven't even finished reading all the comments. Where were these kids when I was teaching?
