It was a lovely Saturday morning. The sun was just rising in the eastern sky, the grass and bushes glinted and glittered with dew, and the air was filled with the musical chirps of the neighborhood birds. The houses and their sleepy inhabitants were bathed in the delicate light of dawn. Looking down upon this picturesque and peaceful scene from his throne beyond of the fabric of Time and Fate, God smirked and thought to himself, Well now, who could ask for a better setup?
With a snap of his fingers, God summoned his wife, Goddess, to his side and informed her of his intentions. He then asked that she go and round up some of the lesser Royal Deities without further delay so that the game could commence. Giddy with excitement over the unexpected entertainment -- the Other World could be terribly dull sometimes -- Goddess flew off and return almost instantaneously with an entourage of Royal Deities.
Directly behind Goddess were the child-like Prince and Princess. The two Royal Deities, who commonly presented themselves in the form of innocent young children, were all but hopping with excitement. The pair crash-landed on the marble floor of God and Goddess's airy Temple, bounced back up on their feet as if they were made of rubber, and proceeded to crowd around God's knees, asking if the game was starting yet.
Though no less excited than Prince and Princess, the rest of the Royals followed in a more stately manner, gliding over to the marble entrance and landing gracefully, though with barely repressed anticipation. Once everyone had arrived and gathered reverently around the Board of the World, God raised his arms and his voice rang throughout the Temple.
"Let the game begin!"
