The full moon looms overhead A large, luminous orb Below, the wolf stalks her prey Silently watching, following The weakened elk has no clue That his life is about to end. She sneaks up from behind She pounces him, he falls down She goes in for the kill The elk has lost the struggle.
Earlier, the elk had been injured. He'd been fighting another predator. A mountain lion had threatened his young. He fought the beast off, And though all survived, He was greivously maimed. Still, he set off to find food, Ignorant of his destiny. Little did he know That he would never return. He would never see the light of day again.
