Leaving behind your friends
Leaving behind your most cherished treasures
In the home you will defend.
Your country and its people
All cheer and pray for you
They say you'll come back safe and sound-
A lie you know is not true.
You comfort your worried mother
And dry up all her tears,
You tell her "Don't worry; I'll be back soon,
It's just a couple years."
You march through streets with people-
The ones you'll fight so hard for-
The adults and smiling children
You hope to save through war.
On the field of rose red blood
Without a fear you fight.
You shoot and stab for those you love
And battle with all your might.
You wake up and look downwards
To see your family and friends
Around your grave they shed their tears
Their hearts need time to mend.
Upon the headstone you start to read
And tears fall from your eyes
You read the words they wrote for you
And the corners of your frown rise.
"Here lies the man we love.
Who died so that we'd live.
Our country is so grateful
For the life you had to give.
In our hearts you'll be forever.
And here's something that's very true:
This country and its people
Would've died if it weren't for you."
