The white fire lizard finaly lived up to it's name...sort of. He flew into the air and snatched the dagger, from Deran's hand. Yes, he was just as shocked as Ceria was. Though, he trained in the matial/kendo arts, of course, he'd come prepaired.
But the real question is, could he move fast enough to prove this? Ceria used this distraction to get away from him. She actually got her knee in his groin and her foot flipped him over her. After getting up, the white fire lizard followed her into the darkness of the forest.
Derran wasn't quite defeated, but for the moment he would take this as a time-out. He was left doubled over, in an awkward position of pure pride-braking guilt. Not to mention it was still raining. "Damnit!" He squealed. It was good that no one was around to see or hear him say that. Being it much higher than expected.
After this, he thought, I wil not fail. "The next time we meet," His voice returned, and he stood up wobbly. "I will kill you. I swear that." And it will have to be soon. For in less than a week, I'll have to return. My father's estimation was too short. And fate is still against me.
Ceria and the white fire lizard escaped into a cave. She and the winged mini-dragon, took this time to breathe. She pressed her chest to comfort a strange, new pain. "That was too close, huh?" She gasped inbetween breaths. " I guess... I should thank you...but... I don't even know... what to call you."
The beautiful creature crawled into her lap and looked up into her eyes. A telepathic message was relayed after most delation. She was told that an impression was made at the hatching, but it was incomplete. Also, that the fire lizard was male, and his name was Aune.
"Well then...." Ceria began with a smile. "Let's get a fire going."
Within a few minutes flames could be seen, and it gave of a soothing, much-needed heat. Ceria warmed herself to this. And Aune played with the flickering light, as well as practiced his own ability to breathe fire.
Ceria reflecting on the fight with her assassin. It was too close. Her eyes suddenly widened. Her chest pain...She recalled that the man had pinned her down with his hand. And...it was right on her-"That pervert!" He needed to get some fun out of it before he attempted to kill me...was that it? Her eyes wavered with anger and at the same time embarrassment. No one had ever gotten that close to her in a battle to the death.
She looked at Aune. He was sulking. Why? "Aune? Are you alright?" What did he mean by an imcomplete impression? She thought. was it possible that an impression could be made on two people at the same time by one fire lizard? She gasped. "No...you mean...the man who tried to killed me was the one you had also impressed?"
The fire lizard nodded helplessly. He felt Derran's embarrassment and failure of the battle. And that he was indeed pitying himself. So Aune did the same. The murderer was his other half. No matter how much Ceria admitted it, she had failed as well. Failed to realized that a white fire lizard could impress two people at the same time. "But why did you choose the assassin?" she asked. But she knew that answer. It couldn't be helped. She sighed heavily, and began to sulk herself. She was now connected in some was... to a murderer.
Why was she given this beautiful creature in the first place? What could Jirana possibly be think of when she handed the egg to her? Ceria had already laid out her bed. And was now getting herself situated on it. "Try to get some sleep. We'll see what we can do to help this issue in the morning, alright?"
Aune cuddled up next to her and comfortably entered contented sleep.
It wasn't long before Ceria's exhausted body excepted unconciousness. She wouldn't hear a leaf or twig snap in this deep of sleep.
Aune stirred in his sleep and awoke in silent shock. He couldn't live like this. When his two parts were separated he just couldn't live. He slithered out of the protecting arms of Ceria. He didn't wish to wake her. Besides he was only going to be gone for a night. Just one.
