Chapter 23 They all stared at each other for a few silent moments, trying to figure out what was going on. Finally, Delange` said, "What the hell? Your not a nymph! How are we supposed to cross the river?" The elf rolled her eyes, and turned toward the water. With a low whistle, the water began to part, and soon there was a dry path across the river. She turned back to them, annoyance in her eyes. "Happy?" she asked crossly. Delange` frowned, and began to stand up. Quito and Rhontu moved towards the path, but the elf stood in their way. "One more thing. You can cross if you let me come with you." Despina glared at her and said, "Why? So you can deceive us again? No way!" The elf glared stubbornly at her, "Ok, so I'm not really a water nymph. So what? You're still getting across the river." Despina was about to retort, but Shaikou said, "She's right, Despina. She's letting us cross, and she's an elf. Why not let her come with us?" It was Resa who answered, her voice shaky from the past incident, "Because she nearly killed Quito, because she's a lying piece of scum, and because she's not welcome!" The elf folded her arms and said, "You won't get across without your word that I may come with you, so either give me it or stay here." She began walking down the path across the river. Rhontu sighed and said, "You have our word." Many gasps were raised, but Rhontu began walking across the river. Despina and Delange` looked outraged, and Resa looked concerned. The elf stood smiling smugly. They eventually all crossed the river, but before they moved on, Rhontu glared at the elf. "Oh, one more thing," he said sarcastically, "before we go anywhere, you have to tell us your story. Your name, how your an elf and a water nymph, that sort of thing." The elf rolled her eyes and sighed, "My name is Heliose. I am an elf, as you can tell. I was sold to a witch way north upriver as her slave. I disobeyed her too many times, and she cursed me to forever be in the river until someone kissed me. I wasn't actually a nymph, just cursed to be like them. The witch knew it would take me forever to find someone who would be brave enough to kiss me..." She smiled at Quito and continued, "I really do appreciate it. And your a wonderful kisser." In the distance, dark clouds were forming. Shaikou put her hand on Resa's shoulder, which was tense from anger. Heliose smiled and said, "Shall we be on our way? Oh, what are y'alls names, and where are we going?" Rhontu grimaced and introduced the group, explaining they were returning home to Uboria. Heliose seemed interested, but asked little questions. By the time the sun was at it's highest, the group was moving again. Heliose was at the back of the group, her golden hair flowing with the breeze as they made their way through the mountains. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Uboria was utter chaos, just as the palace of the Dark Elves. Uborian elves fought Dark elves around every corner, trying desperately to gain back all the momentum they had lost. Iliana had taken over the tunnels of Uboria, and the Uborian elves were now fighting to win them back. Iliana fought on the back of her Florca, it tearing through obstacles as well. Suddenly, a great wind flowed through the tunnels. The fighting ceased, and every elf looked to see Cnurfe` and Libella landing near Iliana, determination on their faces. Iliana snorted at the two and said with a sneer, "Are these your secret weapons, Uborian scum? Two angels that fly down from above?" Cnurfe` drew one of his three katanas and said, "Step down, Iliana. You have no leader in command anymore. Typhlon is dead!" Silence filled the room, as the information was taken in. Suddenly, Iliana laughed a cold laugh, as did all the other Dark elves. She looked over the head of her Florg and said, "Oh please! Typhlon? Dead? Your tactics to bring me down just get worse and worse!" Libella narrowed her eyes and said, "If you knew what was good for you, Iliana, you'd believe us, for it is true. Shaikou killed him, I saw it myself." Gasps came from the Uborian elves as they heard Shaikou's name. Her parents looked up, hope dawning in their eyes. But Iliana cracked her whip at Libella, who flinched back just in time for it to miss, "Enough of this nonsense! If Typhlon really no longer lives, prove it. Do you have any proof? Hmm?" Cnurfe` looked down. He hadn't thought of proof. He thought the Dark elves would scatter the moment they heard the news. Iliana laughed again, "No proof? Pathetic attempt." Libella, filled with rage, yelled at her, "Shaikou is coming! As are all our friends! If Typhlon was alive, do you really think Shaikou would be?" Iliana scowled. She knew this was true. Typhlon would have gone through hell and heaven alike to kill that girl. She saw her army getting nervous, and quickly said, "Your proposal is true. But I do not believe she is coming. Quit your whimpering and let's resume this fight!" Before Cnurfe` and Libella could stop them, the fight broke out again, and they were dragged into it.
