School is Communism......Period.
If you don't believe me, let me make it a little more clear. First, I'll just assume you know what a communist is. I'll just take an example of a past experience, a few years ago in sixth grade. There was an assignment called 'Create a World'. We could do the project however we wanted, but we needed to create our own world under a theme with certain requirements. (Longitude, Latitude, Continents, ect.) Most everyone was making a simple map on paper; you know, pencils, pretty paper, crappy coloring. So, I decided that I wanted to exceed the limit. I created a 3D dimentional 3 level world, making a salt dough and making caves and mountains. I was up until two in the morning on the whole project, considering that I started between four and five PM that day. The next day I get some friends to help me drag the whole damn thing to school while it was raining. After all the work and thinking out side of the box, you know what I got? My teacher gave me a B. The dumb a** jock who spent 30 minutes on the project got an A.
So, moral of the story, it doesn't matter how hard you work, because even if you work your a** off, you're still going to get the same credit as someone who does half as much work.
You can imagine that after experiences like this, I would lose my drive to exceed. I should have gotten the sense by now to save myself from needless work, but I always end up doing more than I have to. By now, I have found that all my attempts to strive beyond standards have been crushed. And you know why? Because schools hate creativity. The way I see it, they would rather dumb you down to every other dip shits standards than exceeding to something greater. The only thing that keeps me from lowering my standards to this level is knowing that ten or so years from now, those jocks who never thought out of the box or exceeded to something creative or intelligent will be bagging my groceries when it comes down to it. ^_^
