Silently tip-toeing her way to the back of the store, Summer suddenly heard a small crunching sound. Frozen, she tightened the grip she had on her handgun. Her palms were starting to get clammy. It was luck, or karma, and a good physique that she had never had to use a gun to one of those monsters. When it came to fight or flight, it was flight that always won out for her. She was in good shape which meant that she could outrun those buggers, not that it was too hard anyway. And other times well, she summed it up to karma; someone else would always attract the zombie’s attention. She wanted to help them, really but when it came down to it, she’d rather save her own skin than risk it for a stranger’s.
She tried to listen for more sounds, to determine exactly where the noise came from. It was dead silent, no more noises were made. Crouching she waited, maybe it was paranoia but she didn’t want to take any chances.
