My sister is a suffering facebook addict and today she said something today that struck me rather hard. I told her that perhaps she had ought to do something more creative and useful in her time, like read. What she said appalled me. "No way, reading is for nerds."

How pitiful, how unfortunate that this is how things have come to be. What possible hope can we have for a future generation who is too lazy to pick up a book, whose music and fashion promotes loose sexual morality. We live in a world that celebrates the carnal pleasures of the flesh and holds little love for the pursuits of the astute and the wise.

What is to become of our world? Of literature, of art, of science? Are we breeding an idiocracy unwittingly? Are we paving the road to our own dissolution? Time will, I suppose, tell. For now we must be patient and watch.

I have little love for modern music, I know it is really not much different in tone and subject than most music that has been around for countless generations. But it seems, back then, that music was a bit of an innocent thing, would you not agree? Back then what "dirty" topics that were discussed were so well veiled behind the poetic use of words that one often had to listen close to hear those subtleties. No longer.

No, today's music will enthrall you with a catchy, dainty tune to distract your ears away from what they are hearing. But you will hear the same thing, sex, violence, drugs, alcohol, partying, whoring, depravity. Why? Why are we moving backwards? Why are we moving backwards towards an age of illiteracy due to apathy? Why are we allowing ourselves to destroy our own culture through apathy.. Apathy..

I only hope, I only pray that when I am an old man..that the new generation will not be as foolish as my own, but it does not really seem that way so far. What hope will the future hold? Were it not for the woman I love, I would say little. I only pray there are enough people like she and I out there who appreciate the finer things in life, so that we are not alone in a sea of apathetic neanderthals..
