A Cat in Wonderland
Chapter 1: Path to Wonderland

The sound of a clock ticking, so sharp and clear it was as each second passed, and it caused the young woman to stir. Her eyes open, revealing light green irises with a cat slit pupil as she glanced around as she rocked in the air. Somehow she slowed down in her tumbling, and somehow she had no recollection as to why or where she was going. Rocking chairs, beds, Old Father-time clocks, bookshelves, and cupboards were all plastered and twisted in the odd little tunnel she was in. Her short black hair floated, parted, and showed something odd that the woman didn’t notice. Ears; cat ears to be exact, and those triangular black ears blended effortlessly in her hair aside from the white tips that matched the white tipped ends of her of her hair.

“Why am I here?” She asked, looking down at the clothes that she was wearing. Black pants fitted to the shape of her legs, and the bold white belt stood out as much as the slim black tail that swayed about. When the black portion of the pants was approaching her feet, the color shifted to white to seamlessly match the boots she wore. On her torso she wore a black vest over a white long sleeve shirt. White fingerless gloves covered her hands and pale, slender fingers, had black and white painted nails that appeared to be claw-like. Sharp, pointed, and possibly were meant to be used as a weapon. She wasn’t aware of why she had them, nor did she recall what she was before this happened.

Who was she following? Why was she feeling desperate to get to the floor and continue her search? Who is she searching for?

“Di…” A voice called from her memory, causing the woman to grab her head in pain. “Di…” The young woman’s voice chimed, continued to torture her and causing her to hiss at the throbbing pain. It was like some sort of torture by the forgotten memory that was out of reach. Was she named Di? No, no, she had a longer name but she only recalled the first two letters. Having a name was little of importance to her, for now she will just be D.

D was slowly descending towards the checker color floor, a sign that her adventure to the unknown was about to begin. Landing gently on her feet, she stayed in a crouch as her ears panned about listening for signs of who she was chasing. Faintly she could hear the sounds of footsteps ahead, and concluded it was whomever she followed to this strange place. Standing up slowly, she took an unsteady step forward. One foot after another, every step was awkward and strange as she forced herself to continue walking on two legs. A notion that seemed alien to her, as if she was far more comfortable all four limbs on the ground and using them together to walk. Much like how a four legged animal would walk.

D continued to walk there, hearing voices of two people bickering before silence ensued afterwards. There weren’t any more sounds, aside from the sounds of gurgling, but everything else went silent. The path in front of her shifted, causing her unsteady feet to collapse and grabbed onto a nearby curtain. Although her grip shouldn’t be strong in this form, it was strong enough for her to rip the curtain down from its pole on the wall. She glanced around, wondering just what was going on.

“Wonderland is being changed,” one voiced chimed in. D glanced around, trying to get back onto her feet before the floor shifted and caused her to slam into a nearby wall. These voices were coming from nowhere; projecting to where she was so she too could hear them. Or it by the graces of some power that she can hear them now, informing her on what was going on. Then again, these shifts could be the cause of why she could hear them. “Wonderland isn’t the same Wonderland as before.”

“It’s all her fault,” one woman screeched. D didn’t know who she was speaking of since there was no name supplied to imply who was at fault. Who were they talking about? Who was at fault? “It’s all her fault! She changed Wonderland!” Who was the one changing Wonderland? Was this ‘she’ the reason why of all these sudden shifts in this world? Why is she changing Wonderland?

D had more questions than she had answers. This place, this hallway, it all must be interlinked with this place called Wonderland. And it was changing, changing by some female who controlled this strange place. If this person, this female, who was changing Wonderland, is the same one she was chasing, then she might have all her answers when she catches up to her. For now, all D can do is move forward and hope she does not become even more lost in this complicated place called Wonderland.

Forcing herself to stand straight once more, finding that whatever that caused the shift like quake earlier had settled, and began to head towards where she heard the two voices earlier. The bickering was there, which meant that whoever changed Wonderland went there too. Rounding the bend, she sees a room filled with doors and one covered with a curtain. So many doors to choose, yet that curtain drew her attention. For some reason it beacon her to open it, a silent siren’s call to pull back the curtain to see what secrets it kept. Was that the way to Wonderland?

Only satisfying her curiosity will tell her if it is or isn’t.
