Minami looked at the buildings and the trees covered with snow. She sighed. It was already Christmas Eve. I guess I'll be spending Christmas alone. she thought ruefully. She normally spent her Christmases with her friends, but this year all of them had Christmas date with their boyfriends. And although she didn't say it out loud; she was just the slightest bit jealous.

Every year Christmas was a little bit different. But she always spent it with her friend Hikari. This year though; the girl's first year of high school; they wouldn't even be spending it together. Thinking once again about the prospect of spending Christmas with just her mom and dad; Minami let out another sigh. "You know, every time you sigh; you let a bit of happiness out." a voice behind her said. Minami spun around. The boy looked familiar. He was wearing her school's uniform, but he wasn't in her class. She thought his name started with a K. Something like Kazune, or Kazuya. But she really couldn't remember why she knew this. "Thanks for that." She said sarcastically. "So what are you doing here? Are you flowing me?" Minami asked suddenly. The boy blushed slightly, or maybe it was just the cold before he answered "N-no. I'm just here to see the decorations before tonight..." "I see." she said before walking away.

The snow crunched underfoot as she walked. Next year I'll definitely get a boyfriend! Minami thought. Unsure what to do next she decided I'll go home an bake some sweets! Cooking was luckily one of Minami's strong points, so she baked cookies, cakes, pudding. That evening; just as she was putting the finishing touches on her strawberry short cake; the doorbell rang. "Hello?" Minami said into the intercom. "Hey!" a voice said back. "Hikari?!" Minami said in disbelief. "What are you doing here?" she asked. "We just finished seeing the lights in the park. Then I said that we should go to your place. I know you've probably made a bunch of sweets." Hikari said. Minami looked at the kitchen table. It was completely covered with sweets. "So you came to help me eat them?" she asked. "Well that too, but I just couldn't think about not spending Christmas with my best friend at all." Hikari said. Minami hugged her "Thanks Hikari! I couldn't imagine not seeing you on Christmas too. But is your boyfriend all right with this?" Minami asked as Hikari and her boyfriend came in. "Of course. He understand that I put my friends first." Hikari said with a smile. "But next year we'll have to go on a double date." she added. "Me and who?" Minami asked slightly puzzled. "Oh please, there's no way you haven't noticed." Hikari said with a laugh. Minami gave her a blank look "Kazuto of course. Don't tell me you haven't seen the way he looks at you." she said with an eyebrow raised. "..." Hikari rolled her eyes. Kazuto! That was his name. I knew it started with a K. And the reason I knew that, was because he's always hanging around my classroom. But could it really be because he likes me? Minami thought. "We should invite him over!" Hikari said. "No way! What if you've just misunderstood something." Minami said reaching for the phone. Hikari expertly dogged "Hi Kazuto! We're at Minami's house having a Christmas party. Want to come over? Great, see you in ten." she said hanging up the phone. "I can't believe you just did that!" Minami said, although she couldn't help but feel a little bit happy.

The next ten minutes felt like hours to Minami. Thoughts like What if he's just coming because Hikari was the one asking? But at last the doorbell was ranging once more. Minami opened the door "Hello." Kazuto said with a smile. "Come in." Minami said. Kazuto walked in "Looks like fin." he said. "So earlier when you were looking at the lights... were you planning to go with a girl you like?" Minami couldn't help but ask. "Well, I would like to, but until today I never really talked to her much." he said looking away. "Is that so..." Minami said. "But I think I will go ahead and ask her tonight!" Kazuto suddenly exclaimed. Minami jumped slightly at the sudden outburst. "Minami will you go see the Christmas lights with me?" Kazuto asked looking straight at Minami. Minami blushed, "Eh? Me! I'm the one you like?" Minami said in surprise. Kazuto turned bright red. "I've liked you for a while now, but never really knew ho wot tell you. But tonight's different! It's Christmas, and if I'm going to tell you, it should be tonight." Minami nodded "I'd love to go with you. But then earlier when I ran into you..." "I was kind of following you." Kazuto admitted. Minami shook her head and smiled. I guess I won't have to wait for next year after all. Minami thought as she smiled at Kazuto.
