Wedding Blues
My sister was finally married last October 28, a Thursday--a lucky day to get married according to astrology. Unlike other wedding ceremonies, the walk down the aisle was not, I repeat, NOT BORING.

St. Mary's Parish, Buhangin, Davao City

12 nn
Call time of all the females involved in the entourage to be in the hotel room and have their makeup done courtesy of Salon Nicole, my sister's favorite makeup artist and hair stylist from previous fashion shows.

1230 hrs
Cab picks me (bridesmaid) up, along with cousin bridesmaids Cristy, Byke, Tessa and cute flowergirl Isa.

1300 hrs
We arrive in the Waterfront Insular Hotel and rush to Room 279.

Hair and makeup session.

1500 hrs
Mom arrives, picks up entire female entourage to take to the church.

1520 hrs
Arrival in church. Nobody seems to be panicking. Where the he** do we position ourselves? Where's the wedding planner?...Oh, there IS no wedding planner?!?

1545 hrs
Old church ladies arrive to help figure entourage lineup.

1600 hrs
Bride arrives in bridal car.

1610 hrs
Walk down the aisle transpires.

Finally, when all had been seated, the "wedding singer" named Daisy belted out a church song in a screechy voice which made one want to cry. I later found out that Nic , the groom, had specifically requested that there be NO choirs or wedding singers, as he had imported his musician friends from the UP Diliman College of Music. Daisy, without knowing it, had killed the entire sanctity of the wedding ceremony through her obscene sounding voice.

As if that wasn't enough, Kaisha (oh cute little darling niece of mine) started to fidget, perhaps feeling itchy and hot in her lacy dress and angel wings. In the middle of the ceremony, Kaisha cried, getting everybody's attention, including the bride and the groom. The bride and groom were no longer listening to the priest who was sermoning on and on about the sanctity of marriage, but rather kept looking behind them, concerned about Kaisha. The priest finally said (my own obliterated account): Nic and Freeda, it seems that you are not serious about this ceremony. I do not want to hurt you. I am sorry Nic. I am sorry to the bride's family. But I cannot carry on with the ceremony. You have to find another priest. Then and there, the priest walks out.

Silence.

3 minutes of silent confusion. Finally, Nic's parents got up and went to the backroom to talk to the priest. Apparently, the priest was Nic's uncle.
Then, Freeda and Nic got up and went to the back room as well. After 15 minutes or so, the priest returned and apologized to the audience for his "rashness". The ceremonies instantly resumed even with my sister's tear-stained face.

The maid of honor and I found our way to where Daisy (the wedding singer) was standing, with the conviction that our voices combined with Daisy's were better than Daisy singing alone. For the next few songs, we joined in but to no avail. Daisy's obscenely screechy voice was so loud that it overpowered all our efforts at neutralizing her voice.

Finally, the ceremonies ended. No picture taking? The couple did not want a conventional wedding so there was no picture taking. That left me feeling cheated--I was cheated of a precious opportunity to get a decent picture taken just when I'm all dressed and made up...

That was indeed not a conventional wedding.
