Chapter One

I hear faint voices, but I don’t want to open my eyes… my back feels like it’s on fire… crap! My eyes snap open as I remember what happened before I lost consciousness.

“Ah. He’s awake.” Someone spoke to my left with a smooth voice. I turned my head.

A man with a light build stood over me, staring down. His black hair with blue streaks is a mess and his blue eyes seem to be full of mockery.

“Hi.” He smiled. I raised my eyebrows at seeing his sharp canine teeth. He stared for another moment or two before turning around to face an elderly man who was standing by a closed brown oak door. “I’m assuming there is nothing wrong with this one.” He pointed at me with his right thumb.

“There was nothing wrong with the others.” His voiced didn’t waver, it seemed like it never would; it was a strong and believable voice.

The younger one snorted. “Yeah, that would be why they all tried to runaway; I’m thoroughly surprised two of them actually made it. All those warning, and they sill ran. Kind of makes me think you mistreat them.”

“I did no such thing. All of my students are treated equally and fairly, same as you. They were all able young men and woman, just simply moronic.”

I’m so confused about what’s going on. Who the hell are these people?

“So, who is he?” The younger man gave me another quick glance.

“Toya, don’t you have somewhere or something else to be doing?” The old man sighed.

Toya? Who the hell is that? Where the hell am I? I attempt to sit up, but a sharp burning pain in my back makes me want to scream, so I lay back down.

“Stay down, boy, you’ll re-open your wounds moving like that.” The old man moves a little to see around Toya and looks at me. Toya snickers, the old man looks at him and he stops. “Well?” He continues to question Toya?

“Nope. According to Bossman he will just be living and studying with you. He’s under my care for training.”

“Your care? This will be interesting.”

“What was that old man? Are you trying to imply something?” Toya gritted his teeth.

The two of them continue to argue. Giving me time to look around the room.

The walls are a light faded blue. There is nothing on them; no pictures, mirrors or posters. There’s only one window and it’s above the bed I’m lying in. Across from the foot of the bed are two sliding brown doors. To the left are Toya and the old man in front of the other closed door.

The bed I’m lying in doesn’t have a frame, just a box spring and mattress. The comforter on top of me is a faded gray with a path here and there. Since the right side of the bed is pushed up against the wall, in a corner, a dark brown night stand occupies a portion of the only open side of the bed. On top of the nightstand is a picture frame laying face down. The room is empty except for all this. Weird.

I quietly sigh. Where the hell am I and what am I doing here. I have to find the b*****d who-

“Hey!” I blink as Toya yells and waves his hand in my face.

“Aah! What the heck?”

“At least we know he can speak.” Toya stood up straight, smiling. “Listen, kid, I’m-” He raises an eyebrow at me as I breathe heavily. “Scare you that bad, did I?” He chuckles. “Well, I guess introductions can wait until tomorrow then.”

“That should have been the first thing to come to your mind, before you came over here.” The old man nodded his head with is eyes closed as he spoke.

“Yeah, yeah. See ya, gramps.” Toya waved as he shut the door behind him.
